Shiseido launches skin discolouration solutions

JAPAN – Shiseido, a Japanese beauty company, has developed 4MSK technology, which enhances the penetration of brightening ingredients into the skin, reducing dark spots, freckles and pigmentation.

The 4MSK technology liquefies 4-methoxy salicylic acid potassium salt, allowing the product to stay fluid upon application and penetrate the skin twice as effectively as older formulas.

Shiseido developed the absorption technology by incorporating the concept of “ionic liquids,” a chemistry concept in which solid ingredients can be turned into liquids when combined with certain substances.

Shiseido said, “Previous methods compromised the ingredients’ original functions and disrupted the skin’s barrier,”

“The discovery that trimethylglycine and 4MSK combined in the right amounts can improve dermal penetration has instigated us to explore more diverse applications.”

A study by Shiseido indicates that the technology effectively suppresses melanogenesis, which leads to dark spots while promoting the exfoliation of melanin deposits to help fade existing spots faster.

The technology could open new possibilities for future cosmetic formulations, offering a solution that balances the structural stability of active ingredients and their ability to permeate the skin.

In addition to its skin discolouration offerings, Shiseido has announced a renewal of its Perfect Cover series, which provides makeup solutions for individuals with skin concerns such as vitiligo, birthmarks, and scars.

The company says the new lineup includes 16 shades of foundation, improved SPF formulation and cleansing oil.

The renewal of the Perfect Cover series introduces improved formulas and an expanded shade range to meet diverse consumer needs, marking the line’s 30th anniversary.

Shiseido’s commitment to addressing diverse beauty needs extends beyond product development, with the company offering personalised beauty consultations through its Life Quality Beauty Centers.

These centres provide makeup techniques and consultations for individuals with unique skin concerns, such as birthmarks, vitiligo, scars, and changes in appearance from medical treatments, helping them feel confident and comfortable.

The company´s advancements in brightening skincare and inclusive makeup reflect a broader shift in the personal care industry toward science-driven innovation and social responsibility.
