Kao earns CDP Triple ‘A’ rating as global environmental leader

JAPAN – Kao Corporation, a manufacturer of personal care and household products, cosmetics and speciality chemicals, has been named an “A-List” company by CDP, a global nonprofit organisation.

This aligns with its annual global survey of companies’ sustainability initiatives in climate change, forests and water security.

The CDP triple ‘A’, the highest rating available in the survey, is the result of Kao’s positive efforts to reduce environmental impact throughout the product lifecycle under its ESG strategy, the Kirei Lifestyle Plan.

Junko Ohtani, executive officer in Kao’s ESG Division, said, ‘‘We aim to offer products that, while being more sustainable, serve as high-performance solutions to everyday issues, thereby empowering the people we serve to live better, comfortably.”

This is the fifth consecutive year that Kao has received a triple “A” rating, the sixth time that Kao has received an “A” in the climate change category, the fifth time in forests and the eighth time in water security.

These recognitions showcase their leadership in addressing climate change, forest conservation, and water security.

Kao Corporation has recently been recognised as a Water Cycle ACTIVE Company.

This company actively implements initiatives related to the water cycle under the Water Cycle Company Registration and Certification System established by the Secretariat of the Headquarters for Water Cycle Policy.

Sustainable Initiatives at Kao Corporation

The company promotes water conservation throughout the product lifecycle by providing water-saving products, such as Attack ZERO, a concentrated liquid laundry detergent that requires only one rinse, and CuCute, a dishwashing liquid that quickly removes foam during rinsing.

Kao promotes water conservation through its production, research, and business activities using the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principle, where water is used for compounding products, cleaning and cooling equipment.

To achieve carbon zero by 2040 and carbon negative by 2050, Kao is developing innovative technologies and collaborating with stakeholders to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the value chain.
