Roquette Beauté expands in Asia with new Co-Innovation Centre in Shanghai, China

CHINA—Roquette Beauté, a French cosmetic company, has opened its new Co-Innovation Centre in Shanghai, China, to create plant-based beauty ingredients for the Chinese cosmetic market.

The company aims to understand the preferences of local consumers and provide them with plant-based solutions. 

The facility will design makeup, hair care, skincare, and oral care solutions.

Bénédicte Courel, general manager at Roquette, stated, “Chinese consumers are increasingly seeking innovative, sustainable and effective cosmetics, and we firmly believe that our expertise in botanical ingredients will meet this growing demand.” 

The Roquette Beauté Expertise Centre has an advanced application lab and a comprehensive testing centre, including sensory analysis capabilities, to support the development of high-performance, plant-based cosmetic formulations.

Courel added, “We focus on creating solutions through biorefining circular models that offer a balance between nature and technology, ensuring safety and sensory benefits, to meet the evolving demand of consumers for sustainable cosmetics.”

The Shanghai Expertise Center is Roquette’s first base in China,  Following the opening of its first specialised centre in Paris in 2020. 

The Paris Expertise Center, located in La Plaine-Saint-Denis, was designed to support and boost innovation and cooperation in cosmetics. 

The Paris centre was a significant milestone for Roquette Beauté, as it allowed the company to better address the challenges of the plant-based cosmetics market and to be recognised as a B2B expert in plant-based ingredients for cosmetics.

The facility extends over 600 square meters and integrates cutting-edge digital technologies, such as 360° laboratory cameras, to facilitate live formulation with Beauté by Roquette ingredients and online collaboration with formulator teams worldwide.

Since the opening of the Paris centre, Roquette Beauté has expanded its footprint globally, with a presence in Europe, North America, and Asia. 

The company has a turnover of around €5 billion (USD 5.2 billion). 

Roquette operates in over 100 countries through more than 30 manufacturing sites.

The company has developed 20 new plant-based ingredients and continues to focus on creating innovative, high-performing, and natural-based formulations.

This commitment to plant-based solutions aligns with the growing consumer demand for clean, sustainable, and eco-friendly products as they increasingly seek alternatives to synthetic chemicals and opt for natural formulations.
