Lucas Meyer unveils honey-based scar repair ingredient 

USA – Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, a manufacturer of natural products from marine and botanical sources, has introduced Melicica, a natural skin repair ingredient that targets scarring.

The product is inspired by the traditional healing properties of honey.

Melicica is an extract derived from Jelly Bush honey, commonly known as Australian Manuka honey, which is highly valued for its distinctive biochemical makeup and healing properties.

In vitro studies have validated Melicica’s efficacy in decreasing the production of pro-inflammatory mediators and free radicals, thereby reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.

In the first clinical trial, which included participants with skin phototypes II to VI, significant effectiveness was observed in reducing the appearance of various types of scars, ranging from old to new, including atrophic, hypertrophic, and keloid scars.

Participants experienced a noticeable reduction in the number and visibility of scars, along with improved skin texture, luminosity, and color evenness, resulting in a healthier and more natural appearance.

In the second clinical trial, involving babies aged 2 to 30 months, Melicica effectively reduced diaper-induced erythema, a common condition affecting over 50% of infants. 

It quickly alleviated discomfort and minimized redness, even on delicate baby skin. 

Additionally, when combined with zinc oxide, the product exhibited a synergistic effect, enhancing its efficacy.
