USA – Aldi, an American supermarket brand, has confirmed the discontinuation of its popular Lacura Original Hot Cloth Cleanser, priced at £2.99 (USD 3.86).
The cleanser, known for its affordability and effectiveness, was a budget-friendly alternative to Liz Earle’s £30 (USD 39) Cleanse & Polish.
The product is designed to cleanse the skin with the help of a gentle exfoliating muslin cloth.
The cleanser is enriched with cocoa butter, which softens and conditions the skin.
It also contains rosemary extracts, chamomile, white tea, and eucalyptus oil.
According to Aldi, although the cleanser was removed from Aldi’s shelves last spring, many customers only recently noticed its absence, leading to widespread disappointment among loyal users.
Aldi stated that it regularly reviews its product range to ensure it meets shopper needs, implying that the decision to discontinue the cleanser was part of this process in response to customer inquiries.
Previously, Aldi had a record of product recalls, including the Lacura Cozmo His 100ml and Lacura Cozmo Hers 100ml perfumes, due to concerns about broken glass in the packaging.
The recall was issued as a precautionary measure to ensure customer safety, with Aldi urging customers to return the affected products for a full refund.
Recently, the beauty industry frequently discontinued or reformulated popular products, often leading to consumer frustration.
Biologique Recherche’s Lotion P50 1970 was recently discontinued due to the presence of phenol, an ingredient no longer permitted in the USA.
Phenol, an antiseptic and disinfectant, poses safety risks, including skin irritation and potential toxic effects, which led the FDA to ban it.
The discontinuation of Lotion P50 1970 has disappointed many loyal users, as the product was known for its effectiveness in exfoliation, balancing oil production, brightening skin tone, and enhancing texture.
To continue meeting consumer needs, Biologique Recherche has developed several variations of the P50 formula without phenol, aiming to provide similar skincare benefits.
