Nesibu Temesgen nominated as New General Manager of Unilever Ethiopia

The appointment of Nesibu Temesgen as General Manager of Unilever Ethiopia is effective April 1, 2025.

ETHIOPIA – Unilever Ethiopia, a leading FMCG company, has appointed Nesibu Temesgen as its new General Manager.

As General Manager, Nesibu Temesgen is expected to oversee operations, strengthen Unilever’s presence in Ethiopia, and contribute to the company’s sustainability and community impact goals.

Nesibu has taken over from George Owusu-Ansah, who led Unilever Ethiopia for the past year and is now retiring.

However, Owusu-Ansah will continue contributing as a Unilever Ghana board member.

Nesibu Temesgen has over 18 years of industry experience, including nine years at Unilever, where he recently served as Customer Development Director, enhancing Unilever Ethiopia’s market position.

He also gained leadership experience in senior sales roles at Heineken Ethiopia, East Africa Tiger Brands, and Unilever Ethiopia.

Nesibu stated, “Driving volume led growth, talent development, and operational excellence will be my top priorities.”

“Upholding Unilever’s values and behaviours with the right control and governance in place to win.”

Nesibu Temesgen aims to expand the company’s distribution channels and introduce new product lines to meet growing market demands.

In his initial plans, Nesibu intends to import select products from Unilever’s global sourcing units while exploring opportunities for local production in the future.

Unilever Ethiopia manufactures and distributes a wide range of products, including personal care items and home care solutions tailored to meet the needs of its consumers.

In the home care category, brands include OMO for laundry detergents, Comfort for fabric softeners, Domestos for cleaning and sanitation, and Cif for surface cleaning.

For personal care, the range features well-known brands like Dove for skincare, Lifebuoy for hygiene, Lux for beauty soaps, Rexona for deodorants, and Sunsilk, which offers a bespoke haircare range specifically designed for Ethiopian hair.

Recently, Unilever Ethiopia unveiled its KE store buying app in Ethiopia, an innovative Route to Market (eRTM) platform designed to empower small, traditional trade retailers.

This app enables retailers to purchase products directly, improving efficiency by allowing them to buy smaller quantities more frequently, which enhances their working capital management.

According to Unilever, the app facilitates data collection for marketing purposes and aims to increase order frequency, strengthening its penetration in smaller trade markets.
