Shiseido strengthens its executive leadership with new appointment

This strategic shift aims to enhance regional focus and management agility within Japan, a key market for the global beauty giant.

JAPAN – Shiseido has announced a significant restructuring of its executive leadership in Japan, effective July 1, 2025.

Kentaro Fujiwara is set to step down from his role as CEO of the Japan Region and will be serving as Representative Corporate Executive Officer, President, and CEO of Shiseido Company, Limited.

Koji Nakata, presently Executive Vice President of Shiseido Japan Co., Ltd., will ascend to the position of Executive Officer and CEO of the Japan Region.

Nakata will also assume the titles of Representative Director, President, and CEO of Shiseido Japan Co., Ltd., roles currently held by Fujiwara.

This leadership reshuffle underscores Shiseido’s commitment to strengthening its regional operations and accelerating growth strategies in Japan’s mature but critical beauty market.

By appointing Nakata to oversee the Japan Region, the company aims to streamline decision-making and enhance localized management, allowing Fujiwara to concentrate on broader corporate leadership initiatives.

The restructuring aligns with Shiseido’s ongoing efforts to optimize its executive framework and drive innovation in a competitive landscape.

As the company continues to refine its strategic direction, this leadership transition is expected to reinforce its market positioning and operational efficiency in Japan.

This appointment follows the company’s recent nomination of Alberto Noe as the new Interim CEO of the Americas Region, effective April 15, 2025.

In addition to the new role, Alberto serves as the CEO of the EMEA Region.

He succeeds Ron Gee, who resigned as CEO of the Americas Region and Global M&A Leader.

This leadership change follows Shiseido’s announcement of changes to the organisational and management structure for its China and Travel Retail businesses.

Toshinobu Umetsu, previously Corporate Executive Officer and CEO of the China Region, has been appointed Corporate Executive Officer and CEO of the combined China & Travel Retail Region, effective March 31, 2025.

He took the role from Philippe Lesné, who previously served as the CEO of Travel Retail Region.

Meanwhile, the company has revolutionized sustainable packaging with its new LiquiForm technology, an innovation that integrates bottle moulding and filling into a single, streamlined process.
