Silab unveils cornflower-derived ingredient for dry and damaged skin repair

This ingredient is developed through the company’s dual expertise in omics technologies and optical biopsies.

FRANCE – Silab, a French-based company that develops natural active ingredients for the global cosmetics and skincare market,  has introduced NEOLIPYL®, a new active ingredient derived from cornflowers.

This ingredient is designed to repair dry and damaged skin by restoring the integrity of the skin’s lipid matrix.

It is developed through the company’s dual expertise in omics technologies and optical biopsies.

According to Silab, NEOLIPYL® targets the structural and compositional imbalances in the lipid barrier that compromise the skin’s ability to retain moisture and defend against external aggressors.

The ingredient works by re-equilibrating the lipid matrix, boosting the synthesis of epidermal lipids and optimizing their organization.

Silab conducted an in-house study using advanced omics technologies, such as lipidomics and optical biopsies, to develop a dry skin model.

This research aims to closely replicate the physiological conditions of dry skin, enabling more targeted evaluation of cosmetic actives in restoring skin barrier function and hydration.

Clinical studies on both Caucasian and Asian skin types demonstrated visible improvements in hydration, comfort, and skin smoothness within 14 days of twice-daily application.

NEOLIPYL® has shown efficacy comparable to niacinamide, a benchmark ingredient in skin barrier repair.

In addition, this ingredient enhances the tolerability of retinol, a widely used but often irritating anti-ageing compound.

According to the research, when co-formulated with retinol, it mitigates common side effects such as dryness, redness, and discomfort, while preserving and even amplifying retinol’s positive effects on skin radiance.

NEOLIPYL® is sourced from organically grown cornflowers in France and is extracted using enzyme engineering to obtain a proline-rich peptide fraction.

The ingredient is 100% of natural origin, compliant with international cosmetic regulations, and available in aqueous solution for easy formulation at concentrations between 0.5% and 2%.

This launch follows the introduction of Matribust at In-Cosmetics Global, expanding its portfolio of natural, targeted skincare solutions.

Matribust is a firming active ingredient derived from jojoba oil cake and developed specifically for the neck and décolleté areas prone to sagging due to structural changes in the skin’s extracellular matrix, or matrisome.

In a clinical study conducted on Caucasian volunteers, an emulsion containing 2.5% Matribust applied twice daily for 84 days demonstrated notable improvements: a 22.9% increase in elastic recovery, an 18.0% enhancement in neck elasticity, and a 12.5% boost in tone.

This ingredient is supplied in aqueous solution and recommended for use at concentrations between 0.5% and 2.5%, offering formulators a patented solution to help restore firmness and resilience to mature or ageing skin.
