KCC Silicone and LG Household & Health Care partner to develop new UV protection materials

This collaboration signals a strong drive by both companies to respond to rising consumer demand for effective and pleasant-to-use sun care products.

SOUTH KOREA – KCC Silicone and LG Household & Health Care have formed a strategic partnership to develop next-generation ultraviolet (UV) protection materials, focusing on silicone polymer technologies optimized for sun care products.

This collaboration was officially announced with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on July 23, 2025, at KCC’s headquarters in Seoul, where key figures such as LG Household & Health Care’s Chief Technology Officer, Kang Nae-kyu, and KCC Silicone’s CEO, Liam Song, were present.

The partnership leverages the strengths of both companies: LG Household & Health Care brings its deep expertise in UV protection formulations through its dedicated Beauty Research Institute, while KCC Silicone contributes advanced high-purity silicone polymer technology.

Together, KCC Silicone and LG Household & Health Care aim to develop innovative silicone polymer materials that will not only enhance UV blocking effectiveness but also improve the sensory experience of sun care products for consumers.

The joint efforts are set to focus on formulating new sunscreens using these silicone polymers, conducting rigorous efficacy testing, and sharing research results collaboratively.

Additionally, the partnership includes plans to engage in academic exchange and broaden their research scope to encompass wider skincare material applications in the future.

LG Household & Health Care’s Chief Technology Officer, Kang Nae-kyu, highlighted the increasing importance of sun care products, stating,  “As climate change emphasizes the importance of UV protection, sun care products have become essential year-round.”

“We will utilize materials that provide high UV-blocking efficiency and satisfying sensory qualities to launch sun care products with strong global competitiveness.”

This comes at a time when consumers are increasingly prioritizing skin health and environmental responsibility, driving robust growth in the global sun care products market.

According to a report published by Future Market Insights, the global sun care products market is projected to grow from USD 15.43 billion in 2025 to USD 28.96 billion by 2035, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5%.
