TWE expands global footprint with new nonwovens facility in India

The expansion at Bhopal is a strategic move to broaden TWE’s manufacturing capacity to meet increasing demand in India’s burgeoning hygiene market and to strengthen its position in one of the world’s most dynamic economies.

INDIA – Germany-based nonwovens producer TWE Group is significantly expanding its global footprint by establishing a new nonwovens production facility in Bhopal, India.

The new site is currently under construction and will initially accommodate two hygiene production lines.

These lines will focus on applications including Acquisition Distribution Layers (ADL), lightweight topsheets, and backsheets tailored for baby care, feminine hygiene, and adult incontinence markets.

This investment aligns with TWE’s strategy to support continued growth, particularly in the health and hygiene segments.

The Bhopal facility is designed with scalability in mind, with space to expand up to four to six production lines in total, allowing future capacity enhancements as demand grows.

TWE already has a presence in India through a joint venture formed in 2023 with Obeetee Textiles (OTL), where TWE holds a 50% stake. OTL is a recognized player in India’s nonwovens market, particularly in the automotive segment.

The partnership has been instrumental in solidifying TWE’s footprint in India’s fast-growing automotive and living markets.

The joint venture includes commitments to invest in new manufacturing capacity for nonwovens targeting health and hygiene applications.

CCO Ralf Berens emphasized the success of the joint venture and its importance to TWE’s global strategy, stating, “Our joint venture in India has been highly successful and continues to play a key role in our global strategy.”

“In addition to expanding hygiene capacity through the new Bhopal site, the JV has solidified our footprint in India’s fast-growing automotive and living markets.”

This development also highlights India’s growing significance in the global nonwovens industry and TWE’s intent to build a sustainable manufacturing presence to leverage future market opportunities in hygiene and health products.

TWE Group produces nonwovens for automotive, hygiene, healthcare, construction, and furniture applications. Its products include insulation, filtration media, and sustainable hygiene substrates.

For the hygiene products, TWE Group offers nonwovens used in baby diapers, feminine hygiene, and incontinence care.
