This Nyírbátor site will be Unilever’s fourth-largest global deodorant production facility.

HUNGARY – Unilever is set to commit 30 billion forints(USD 88.7 million) in a large new production facility in Nyírbátor, Hungary.
This 10,000-square-meter plant represents a strategic expansion beyond Unilever’s existing home care products into hygiene and deodorant manufacturing.
The facility is planned to produce 150 million aerosol deodorant bottles annually, primarily serving Eastern European markets.
Construction of the new plant began in late 2024, with the main structure expected to have been completed by mid-September 2025, and trial production operations anticipated to start in summer 2026.
According to the company, this facility will meet strict fire and safety standards and will include production, storage, and office spaces.
The investment aims to strengthen Unilever’s European supply network and respond to growing regional demand for personal care aerosols, while also boosting local job creation.
The project is supported by the Hungarian state with 3.9 billion forints(USD 11.53 million) and will create around 100 new jobs.
The deodorants produced will be under well-known Unilever brands such as Axe, Rexona, and Dove.
About 92% of the production is planned for export, supplying markets including the Czech Republic, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Greece.
This development reinforces the importance of Hungary as a regional manufacturing hub for Unilever, complementing its existing household chemical plant in Nyírbátor, known for brands like Domestos, Cif, and Coccolino.
The broader Nyírbátor site is one of the most modern and strategically essential production centres for Unilever in Europe.
Meanwhile, Unilever recently launched a state-of-the-art fragrance laboratory in Trumbull, Connecticut, as part of a €100 million (USD 117.47 million) global investment to enhance its in-house fragrance design capabilities.
This move strengthens Unilever’s innovation strategy for its personal care, home care, and beauty brands, including Dove, Persil, and TRESemmé.
The Trumbull lab, housed within Unilever’s existing R&D facility, aims to enhance fragrance development by integrating advanced science, AI, and consumer insights to create scents that resonate deeply with consumers.
It utilises robotics for blending fragrance oils, real-time data analytics, and neuroscience techniques to investigate how scents affect mood and well-being.
