IFF strengthens board with appointment of Brett Icahn and Dr. Richard Mulligan

These appointments are seen as key to accelerating IFF’s transformation and delivering long-term value to customers, shareholders, and employees.

USA – International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF) announced the appointment of Brett Icahn and Dr. Richard Mulligan to its board of directors, effective October 20, 2025.

These appointments follow a cooperation agreement with Icahn Capital LP and its affiliates.

Brett Icahn has joined the board as the Icahn designee, replacing Vincent Intrieri, and will serve on the Board’s Audit and Transaction Committees.

Dr. Richard Mulligan, appointed as the agreed-upon independent director, replaces Margarita Paláu-Hernández.

He will contribute to the Board’s Innovation Committee.

Intrieri and Paláu-Hernández stepped down from the board on Oct. 20.

Kevin O’Byrne, chair of the IFF board, stated, “We are very pleased to welcome Brett and Richard to the IFF board.”

“Brett brings a sharp investment acumen and deep understanding of corporate strategy, while Richard offers world-class scientific expertise and a track record of innovation.”

“Their combined experience will be very valuable as we accelerate our transformation and deliver sustainable, long-term value for our customers, shareholders and employees.”

Brett Icahn is a portfolio manager and investor at Icahn Capital LP, a subsidiary of Icahn Enterprises, which is active across multiple industries including investment, automotive, and energy.

Since October 2020, he has been a key figure in shaping the investment strategies of Icahn Capital.

He currently holds board positions at SandRidge Energy Inc. and CVR Energy, and has extensive prior experience serving on the boards of various prominent companies.

On the other hand, Richard Mulligan, Ph.D., is the Mallinckrodt Professor of Genetics emeritus at Harvard Medical School and was a visiting scientist at the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT from 2017 to 2021.

He has held roles including portfolio manager at Icahn Capital LP and founding partner of Sarissa Capital Management.

Mulligan has served on boards such as Sana Biotechnology and Bausch Health Companies and has received prestigious awards like the MacArthur Foundation Genius Prize.

This move comes after IFF recently nominated Paul J. Fribourg and Jesus B. Mantas to its Board of Directors, effective immediately.

According to IFF, these new board members bring extensive global leadership, industry expertise, and strategic insights crucial for advancing IFF’s innovation agenda and strengthening its market position.

Paul J. Fribourg has been assigned to the Transaction Committee.
