The innovation reflects a growing trend in the personal care sector towards using recycled and recyclable materials to reduce environmental impact and meet consumer demand for sustainable products.

FRANCE – Amcor has launched a new skincare stick applicator for Decathlon, utilizing recycled polypropylene (PP) sourced from its proprietary CleanStream technology.
The 25 mL applicators are used for Decathlon’s anti-chafing and SPF50+ sunscreen sticks, aligning with the sports retailer’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and enhancing product sustainability.
The mono-material design ensures the applicators are recycle-ready, supporting circular economy efforts where local infrastructure allows for recycling.
Amcor’s CleanStream technology mechanically recycles household PP waste, employing automated identification, sorting, and decontamination processes to produce high-quality recycled plastic suitable for contact-sensitive applications like skincare products.
Laurent Dujardin, product and pack engineer for Health and Sports Accessories at Decathlon, stated, “Our customers want a quality product that they can easily use on the move, so the stick format is ideal. We challenged ourselves to also provide a more sustainable option that would still deliver high performance.”
Decathlon’s adoption of these applicators is part of its broader commitment to reducing absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030, using 2021 as the baseline year.
The anti-chafing stick was designed with input from athletes, focusing on ease of application, portability, and mess-free use.
The SPF50+ sunscreen stick features a wide applicator for full coverage, is water and sweat-resistant, and is compact for easy transport.
Both products are designed for active consumers who value convenience and sustainability in their personal care choices.
Amcor’s CleanStream technology enables brands to combine convenience, performance, and environmental responsibility in their packaging solutions.
This partnership between Amcor and Decathlon demonstrates how advanced recycling technologies can be leveraged to create practical, high-performance packaging solutions that support both brand sustainability goals and consumer preferences.
This move comes after Amcor recently expanded its personal care packaging range with the launch of the Shadow roll-on deodorant, a lightweight and highly customizable packaging solution designed to meet evolving consumer and brand demands.
The Shadow roll-on is among the lightest in Amcor’s portfolio, thanks to significantly reduced plastic use in its production.
Both the bottle and cap incorporate up to 60% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic and are designed to be recycle-ready, supporting sustainability goals without compromising on durability or functionality.
