OpenAI unveils ChatGPT Health to help patients navigate medical data

This feature addresses the weekly health queries of over 230 million global users.

GLOBAL – ChatGPT has unveiled ChatGPT Health, a transformative dedicated space within the platform that securely integrates users’ fragmented health information.

This includes data from medical portals, wearables, PDFs, apps, and clinical notes, with AI-powered insights to foster greater confidence in managing wellness and healthcare.

This feature enables seamless connections to U.S. medical records through b.well, Apple Health for iOS-tracked fitness, sleep, and activity patterns, Function for lab analysis and nutrition guidance, MyFitnessPal for macro tracking and recipes, Weight Watchers for GLP-1 tailored meals, AllTrails for hiking recommendations, Instacart for shoppable meal lists, and Peloton for workout classes or meditations.

Users access familiar tools like file uploads, voice mode, dictation, search, and deep research to pose personalized queries, such as tracking cholesterol trends, summarizing bloodwork ahead of appointments, assessing overall health snapshots, preparing discussion points for annual physicals, crafting post-baby exercise routines, or generating realistic GLP-1 diet and workout weekly plans.

In addition,it even creates pros/cons tables for insurance options based on personal history all explicitly framed as supportive tools to complement, not diagnose or replace, professional clinician care.

At its core lies robust privacy architecture: health operates in isolation with purpose-built encryption for data at rest and in transit, compartmentalized storage for conversations, files, and memories that prevent leakage into non-Health chats (while allowing relevant general context to enhance responses when useful), exclusion from foundation model training, 30-day chat deletion options, multi-factor authentication, and instant revocation of app permissions after rigorous security vetting for minimal data needs.

Crafted over two years in collaboration with more than 260 physicians spanning 60 countries and dozens of specialties, who delivered over 600,000 feedback instances across 30 focus areas, the system is rigorously evaluated via HealthBench, a physician-developed framework using clinical rubrics to benchmark safety, clarity, appropriate care escalation, and contextual relevance for practical tasks like interpreting lab results, prepping appointment questions, analyzing wearable data, or distilling care instructions.

Rollout begins with early access for ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users outside the EEA, Switzerland, and UK, soon expanding to all via web and iOS sidebar selection; connect data through tools, apps, or settings, apply Health-specific custom instructions, and engage in grounded, empowering health dialogues.
