IMCD expands North American footprint with new beauty & personal care lab in California

This state-of-the-art facility strengthens IMCD’s role as a leading distributor and formulator of speciality chemicals and ingredients.

USA – IMCD Group has launched a new Beauty & Personal Care laboratory in Brea, California, to boost innovation in cosmetic formulation and customer collaboration across the Americas.

The Brea lab integrates an expanded formulation area with cutting-edge equipment and dedicated rooms for workshops, innovation sessions, and brainstorming.

This setup fosters close teamwork among IMCD staff, clients, and suppliers to swiftly transform ideas into market-ready prototypes.
It joins IMCD’s network of over 80 global technical centres, enhancing support for diverse markets.

The lab shortens product development cycles and improves efficiency, helping customers adapt quickly to shifting consumer demands, regulations, and trends in beauty and personal care.

Hands-on collaboration enables testing, refining, and validating concepts directly.

Ian Lawrence, Director of IMCD Beauty & Personal Care Americas, stated, “This new laboratory represents how we want to be the formulatory go-to partner for our customers. It embodies innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence, the foundation of how we differentiate ourselves in the market.”

“We are excited to strengthen our presence on the West Coast and continue building meaningful partnerships.”

Danielle Wheeler, Technical Director, emphasizes its role in sparking creativity amid rapid industry evolution, turning market insights into unique formulations.

The opening featured a celebratory gathering for partners, customers, and staff to tour the lab and witness its blend of science and creativity in action.

In addition, IMCD has also reopened its fully modernised Food & Nutrition application laboratory in Cologne, marking a significant investment in technical infrastructure for Germany’s food and beverage industry.

The upgraded facility now operates as part of a newly established life science hub, bringing together food and nutrition, pharmaceutical, and beauty and personal care laboratories at a single location for the first time.

The consolidation is designed to strengthen IMCD’s ability to support manufacturers facing increasingly complex formulation and innovation demands.

By housing three specialist laboratories under one roof, the company aims to enhance collaboration across disciplines and provide more integrated technical, application and regulatory support to customers.

The Beauty & Personal Care Laboratory at the site supports formulation work in skincare, sun care, haircare and cosmetics, providing prototype development, application testing and training aligned with emerging trends.
