Dow and Univar Solutions ink long-term distribution deal for Decarbia products

The overall message is that sustainability is moving from a branding priority to a supply-chain requirement in personal care, with ingredients, packaging, and reporting all under closer scrutiny.

USA – Dow and Univar Solutions have entered a long-term agreement to expand access to Dow’s Decarbia line of low-carbon speciality chemicals used in cosmetic applications.

The partnership will leverage Univar Solutions’ global distribution network to provide personal care manufacturers with broader access to ingredients backed by Product Carbon Footprint certificates, as brands face growing pressure to cut emissions across their supply chains.

Dow said the arrangement combines its Decarbia portfolio, backed by high-integrity carbon data, with Univar Solutions’ distribution reach to help customers move toward sustainability goals with greater confidence.

Brendy Lange, president of Performance Materials and Coatings at Dow, said: “By combining Dow’s Decarbia low-carbon product portfolio, supported by high-integrity, verifiable PCF data, with Univar Solutions’ strong global distribution network, we are helping customers advance their sustainability goals with confidence.”

The company said its low-carbon product footprints are measured using its Carbon Footprint Ledger methodology, which aligns with ISO and GHG standards.

That certified data is meant to help customers measure and report emissions more reliably, supporting the personal care industry’s push for greater transparency around sustainability performance.

Univar Solutions said third-party-verified low-carbon options can provide more effective supply chain alternatives and help customers make progress on Scope 3 emissions reductions.

David Jukes, president and CEO of Univar Solutions, said demand for lower-carbon ingredients continues to rise as beauty companies respond to consumer expectations and strengthen their sustainability commitments.

The broader market context shows that cosmetics companies are increasingly linking product development with carbon reduction.

In March, L’Oréal and Dioxycle partnered on packaging made with plastic derived from captured carbon emissions, while Savour later launched a personal care and beauty division focused on carbon-free fat alternatives that it says emit significantly less than tropical oils used in cosmetic formulas.

By pairing Dow’s ingredient portfolio with Univar Solutions’ distribution network, the two companies aim to make lower-carbon ingredient options more accessible to cosmetic formulators and manufacturers.
