The concept gives fragrance brands greater design flexibility while responding to consumer interest in premium products that can help reduce packaging waste.

USA – Silgan has introduced a new pump for a portable molded-glass fragrance bottle developed by Groupe Pochet, meeting growing demand for premium, refillable, lower-waste packaging in the personal-care market.
The new Melodie Pirouette SNI 13 pump forms part of Silgan’s “Emotions of Spray” portable collection and is designed for use with Groupe Pochet’s SNI 13 bottle neck.
It builds on Silgan’s existing screw-neck pump technology for SNI 15, which was adapted to fit the smaller SNI 13 format.
According to Sandy Gregory, Marketing Director of Silgan’s Fragrance division, the company modified its manufacturing processes to support high-speed assembly, invested in new moulds, and carried out extensive testing to ensure that the pump delivers the ease of use, performance, and durability needed for repeated refilling.
Silgan developed the updated pump to help fragrance brands offer a distinctive portable-luxury format while overcoming the technical challenges associated with refillable, on-the-go packaging.
The Melodie Pirouette SNI 13 pump is designed to remain functional over an extended period and to support multiple refills.
When combined with Silgan’s Replay connector system, its removable design enables personal-care brands to expand their range of portable fragrance products and offer consumers a more convenient refill experience.
Sandy Gregory, marketing director of the Fragrance division at Silgan, stated, “We adapted our manufacturing processes for high-speed assembly, investing in new molds and rigorously testing the pump to ensure the ease of use, performance, and durability required for frequent refilling over time.”
Glass is strongly associated with luxury and high-end beauty because of its brilliance, weight, light-reflecting qualities, and ability to be formed into complex shapes.
Bormioli Luigi recently expanded its standard fragrance-bottle portfolio with two miniature formats designed for consumers who prefer portable products.
Other fragrance brands are also using glass packaging to reinforce their identities. Aesop, owned by L’Oréal, redesigned its fragrance bottle to accompany the launch of Unforeseen Aer.
The new design features a taller and slimmer amber-glass bottle, a domed base, and a basalt-textured cap.
While retaining Aesop’s minimalist aesthetic, the redesign was intended to sit harmoniously alongside the brand’s other formulations in retail environments, according to Aï Kato, Aesop’s Creative Director.
Glass is increasingly viewed as a sustainable packaging material because it can be reused, refilled, and recycled.
However, its environmental performance also presents challenges, particularly because manufacturing glass requires substantial energy and can generate significant carbon emissions.
