AORA México introduces plastic-free cosmetics line at Sephora

At the centre of the collaboration is a comprehensive approach to packaging innovation that extends from product design to the retail environment.

USA – Sephora has partnered with AORA México to launch the retailer’s first fully plastic-free cosmetics line, marking a significant departure from the beauty industry’s heavy reliance on single-use packaging.

Under the agreement, AORA México, a luxury colour cosmetics brand founded in Mexico City in 2022, will debut its full product range on Sephora’s U.S. website, positioning itself as “the first plastic-free beauty brand” to join the retailer’s roster.

The initiative aims to prove that luxury and sustainability are not mutually exclusive while bridging the gap between environmental responsibility and prestige beauty.

The partnership is being heralded by the brand as a landmark moment, with co-founder Nour Tayara stating that when Sephora embraces a new idea, the industry pays attention, and that this launch proves plastic-free luxury belongs at the centre of the beauty industry.

AORA’s packaging is crafted from 100% plastic-free, fully recyclable materials such as tin, aluminium, and wood, eschewing conventional plastic components.

The new Inícia Illuminating Primer, which is making its retail debut at Sephora, is housed in a 100% aluminum package, while the Mírame Palette features an eyeshadow palette design inspired by Mexican pyramids.

Beyond the products, the commitment extends to the retail environment, with AORA developing a 100% aluminum, zero-plastic in-store display for its retail partners, a first in prestige beauty that costs significantly more than traditional plastic units but aligns with the brand’s mission.

The launch brings AORA’s full line to Sephora, including the Acaríciame Más Spicy Lip Serum, which delivers a unique sensation powered by five native Mexican chiles, and the Inícia Illuminating Primer, a gel-crema formula with 12-hour wear formulated with Mexican-origin ingredients such as tepezcohuite, cactus flower, and shea extract.

AORA features Spanish-language packaging and bilingual digital content, a rarity in prestige beauty, reflecting the brand’s Mexican heritage and the significant influence of Latina consumers in the U.S. beauty market.

The collaboration also builds on AORA’s expanding mission of environmental and social impact that extends well beyond primary packaging.

The brand is certified by rePurpose Global as a “plastic-negative” company, and for every product purchased, it funds the removal of 9 times its weight in plastic waste from the environment.

To date, AORA’s customers have helped fund the removal of over 2,390 kilograms of plastic waste.

According to the partners, many sustainable beauty initiatives fail to gain traction because brands often lack access to both the advanced material science and the retail platforms needed to scale plastic-free solutions.

This new framework seeks to overcome those barriers by offering both capabilities through a single collaborative programme with Sephora.

The announcement comes as the beauty industry faces increasing scrutiny over its environmental footprint, and the partnership positions AORA’s Mexico-born innovation as a potential turning point for sustainable prestige beauty, proving that performance, aesthetics, and tangible environmental action can coexist on a global retail stage.
