This sunscreen addresses the growing need for effective sun protection tailored to melanin-rich skin and African skin types.
KENYA – Garnier, a cosmetics brand owned by the French company L’Oréal, has launched Super UV SPF 50 sunscreen in Kenya to cater to melanin-rich and African skin types.
The launch addresses the rising demand for effective sun protection products in Kenya and Africa, driven by growing awareness of UV-related skin damage and its links to dark spots and premature aging.
The product fills a critical gap left by traditional sunscreens, offering solutions tailored specifically for deeper skin tones without the white cast or greasy texture.
According to the company, the product is dermatologically tested on African skin and is infused with Vitamin C to help reduce dark marks.
Natalie Njenga, Brand Business Lead at L’Oréal, stated, “The introduction of Garnier Super UV SPF 50 Sunscreen marks a major milestone in skincare innovation.”
“We understand the unique skincare needs of melanin-rich skin, and this product delivers 99% protection against sun damage and dark marks, without compromising on comfort or appearance.”

In hair care, their Fructis and Whole Blends lines provide shampoos, conditioners, and treatments tailored to various needs, such as anti-frizz, hydration, and repair.

The brand formulates its products with high-performing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, shea butter, honey, vitamin C, charcoal, beeswax, aloe vera, avocado oil, argan oil, niacinamide, polyhydroxy acids (PHA), and clay/kaolin to cater to various skincare and haircare needs while ensuring sustainability.
By 2025, Garnier aims to revolutionize its hair and skincare products and packaging, leveraging Green Sciences and advanced biotechnologies to develop innovative formulas.
The company also plans to ensure its packaging is made from 100% recycled plastics.
Meanwhile, Kao Corporation recently launched Bioré UV Aqua Rich Airy Hold Cream, which features innovative humidity-responsive technology to combat stickiness and dryness in varying conditions.

The new formulation addresses growing consumer concerns about sunscreen stickiness as Japan’s rising temperatures and humidity drive demand for improved products.
