SC Johnson and London Drugs team up to tackle plastic waste  with new refill station

The refill station aims to reduce plastic waste by up to 93%.

USA – SC Johnson, an American leading manufacturer of household cleaning products, has introduced its first refill station in North America, at London Drugs, a Canadian pharmacy and retail chain.

This initiative allows customers to refill reusable bottles with hand and dish soap from brands like Method and Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day, reducing plastic waste by up to 93%.

The refill station is part of London Drugs’ broader commitment to waste reduction and experiential retail, integrating sustainability into its shopping experience.

Located in the retailer’s new concept store in Burnaby, British Columbia, the station dispenses soap into reusable pouches, offering a convenient and eco-friendly alternative to single-use plastic packaging.

Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson, stated, “We’ve worked closely with our partners at London Drugs to make the method and Mrs.”

“Meyers Clean Day refill machines are as convenient as possible for people, which is key to the success of refill/reuse systems.”

He added, “We think it is incumbent on all of us to innovate refill/reuse opportunities and push for regulatory measures to help with adoption of these systems.”

This refill station aligns with London Drugs’ human-centred design principles, which focus on assistance, personalization, community, and discovery.

The store features a recycling station, a redesigned pharmacy area, and a reimagined beauty department, all aimed at promoting sustainability and wellness.

By integrating refill solutions into mainstream retail, SC Johnson and London Drugs are paving the way for a more sustainable future, encouraging consumers to embrace refill and reuse systems as a practical way to reduce household waste.

SC Johnson had already made significant strides in advancing sustainable packaging solutions through its Ecover brand, which has established over 730 refill stations across Europe.

Ecover’s refill stations are strategically placed in supermarkets, health food stores, and zero-waste shops, ensuring that consumers have easy access to refill their bottles rather than purchasing new ones.

SC Johnson’s Refillution campaign further amplifies this movement, encouraging retailers, policymakers, and consumers to embrace refill systems as a mainstream solution to plastic waste.

The company has also introduced reward programs, incentivising customers to refill their bottles by offering benefits for choosing reuse over disposal.
