Brenntag recognized with EcoVadis Gold for outstanding sustainability performance

Through this recognition, Brenntag underscores its leadership role in advancing responsible chemical distribution and demonstrates ongoing efforts to embed ambitious ESG goals into its global operations.

GERMANY – Brenntag has been recognized with the prestigious EcoVadis Gold medal for its outstanding sustainability performance in the 2025 assessment, placing it among the top 3% of companies evaluated worldwide.

This achievement follows a stable overall score of 80 points, reflecting Brenntag’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement practices.

The company demonstrated significant performance improvements in key subcategories, including labour and human rights, as well as ethics, despite the introduction of a more rigorous EcoVadis scoring methodology this year.

Last year, Brenntag held a Platinum ranking with a score of 81 points; however, changes in the evaluation criteria meant the 2025 result translates to a Gold rating, a testament to the rising global standards in sustainability performance.

Andreas Kicherer, Vice President of Sustainability at Brenntag Group, stated, “We applaud the rising global standards in sustainability performance reflected by the refined scoring weighting, even if this means tougher competition to reach the coveted Platinum medal, which we were awarded last year.”

“We remain committed and confident in our ambitions of leading our industry in sustainability as we are constantly striving for excellence.”

Through this recognition, Brenntag underscores its leadership role in advancing responsible chemical distribution and demonstrates ongoing efforts to embed ambitious ESG goals into its global operations.

Meanwhile, Brenntag recently achieved a milestone with the inauguration of the world’s first CO2-emission-free chemical distribution site in Traun, Austria.

This facility represents a significant step in the company’s commitment to sustainability and climate neutrality, aligning with its ambitious goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.

The transformation of the Traun site into a fully CO2-free operation involved a comprehensive overhaul of its energy infrastructure, integrating advanced technologies to optimize efficiency and eliminate carbon emissions.

In addition, a photovoltaic system has been installed to generate 220,000 kWh of electricity annually, covering the energy needs of the site’s heat pumps, operational consumers, and electric vehicle charging stations.

According to the company, these measures collectively result in an annual reduction of approximately 120 tons of CO2, equivalent to the total annual energy consumption of 50 households.
