Croda confirms INCI name for its advanced hair repair ingredient KeraBio K31

By securing an official INCI designation, Croda’s KeraBio K31 is now recognized globally under a standardized nomenclature.

UK – Croda has announced the official assignment of an INCI (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient) name for its innovative hair repair ingredient, KeraBio K31, as Hydrolysed sr-(Tripeptide-137 Hexapeptide-40 sh-Polypeptide-184 sh-Polypeptide-146).

The confirmation ensures standardization, regulatory clarity, and enhanced transparency for formulators and cosmetic manufacturers seeking advanced solutions for hair care.

KeraBio K31 is the result of protein engineering and bio-based technology, developed specifically to address damaged hair by mimicking the function and structure of natural keratin.

With this new ingredient, Croda aims to offer brands a clinically proven and sustainable answer to the ongoing demand for effective, science-backed hair repair technologies.

Extensive testing has demonstrated that KeraBio K31 can significantly improve hair strength, manageability, and hydration, while reducing visible signs of damage from heat styling, coloring, and environmental stressors.

Sandra Breene, President of Consumer Care, stated, “KeraBio K31 is a strategic response to evolving consumer expectations around efficacy, sustainability, and science-led performance.”

“By bringing together our innovation, sustainability, and formulation teams, we have developed a biomimetic keratin technology that not only reflects our commitment to pioneering high-performance beauty solutions but also demonstrates how we innovate together to shape the future of hair care.”

By securing an official INCI designation, Croda’s KeraBio K31 is now recognized globally under a standardized nomenclature, enabling easy inclusion in product formulations and ingredient lists.

Croda recently announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2025, reporting group sales of £442 million(USD 587.8 million), an 8% rise compared to the same period last year.

The company attributed this performance to higher sales volumes and improved asset utilization across its 11 manufacturing sites, signalling early success in its five-point strategy to boost growth and recover margins.

Each of Croda’s core business segments delivered solid growth.

Consumer Care rose by 8%, from £237M(USD 288.5 million) in Q1FY24 to £255M in Q1FY25, driven by strong demand in Fragrances & Flavours, Beauty Care, and Home Care.

Regionally, EMEA led with 13% growth, followed by Asia (+9%), Latin America (+5%), and North America (+4%). Despite geopolitical uncertainties and the introduction of new trade tariffs, Croda maintained its full-year profit guidance of £265 million(USD 355.2 million) to £295 million(USD 398.9 million), and plans to apply tariff surcharges to offset rising costs.
