EcoBeautyscore provides brands with a clear framework for innovating responsibly and communicating their sustainability commitments transparently.

GLOBAL – EcoBeautyscore Association, a non-profit organisation that offers an environmental impact assessment and scoring system for cosmetics products, has unveiled EcoBeautyScore, an environmental rating system specifically designed for cosmetics and personal care products.
This move marks a significant advancement in consumer transparency and sustainable industry practices.
This new rating framework assesses products across multiple environmental dimensions, including carbon footprint, water usage, ingredient sourcing, packaging impact, and overall ecological footprint.
By providing a comprehensive and easy-to-understand score, the initiative aims to empower shoppers to make more informed, eco-conscious purchasing decisions.
The rating also serves as a valuable benchmarking tool for manufacturers seeking to improve the sustainability of their formulations and packaging.
According to EcoBeautyscore officials, the methodology behind the rating integrates verified scientific data and lifecycle analysis methodologies, ensuring accuracy and credibility.
The resulting score is presented on product labels and digital platforms to maximize accessibility and consumer engagement.
Products are graded on a scale from A to E, where an “A” indicates a product with one of the lowest environmental impacts in its category and an “E” denotes a higher impact.
This framework was developed over three years through a collaborative, industry-wide effort involving more than 70 companies and associations.
The launch of EcoBeautyscore’s rating system responds to growing consumer demand for more precise and more reliable information about the environmental impact of beauty and personal care products.
Industry experts have praised the initiative as a potential game-changer for the cosmetics sector, long criticized for its complex supply chains and environmental challenges.
Beiersdorf has taken a pioneering step in consumer transparency and sustainability by implementing the EcoBeautyScore for its flagship brands NIVEA and Eucerin.
For Beiersdorf, this translates into tangible achievements: 99% of NIVEA face care products and 100% of Eucerin face care products have attained A or B ratings, reflecting the company’s strong sustainability efforts in recent years.
Anke Pilzner, Global Claim Advisor at Beiersdorf R&D, stated, “Sustainability is a team sport. It requires joint efforts across the whole industry to shape a more sustainable future together.”
“The EcoBeautyScore is a great testament to the power of collaboration, while bringing real added value to our consumers.”
In addition to Beiersdorf, brands such as L’Oréal Paris, Neutrogena, and Eucerin have begun publishing EcoBeautyScore ratings for select products.
