Byome Labs secures USD 4.2M to commercialize instant skin microbiome test

Byome Labs aims to address a critical industry challenge: the mismatch between cosmetic products and individual skin needs.

FRANCE – Byome Labs, a French startup, has secured €3.6 million (USD 4.20 million) to bring to market Byome Derma, the first-ever instant skin microbiome test designed for use directly at retail points.

The test utilises antigenic strips similar to those used in COVID-19 tests to measure 25 skin parameters quickly and without the need for specialised devices.

Results are interpreted by an AI system trained by dermatologists, offering personalized skincare product recommendations based on the user’s unique skin microbiome.

This innovation aims to bridge the gap between complex, lab-based microbiome analysis and accessible, real-time consumer use, helping brands provide scientifically backed, personalized skincare advice.

David Suissa, Founder and CEO of Byome Labs, emphasized the goal of their scientific innovation, stating, “Scientific innovation only matters if it can serve the many.”

“With this fundraising, we are scaling up to the industrial level and offering brands a new standard of instant skincare recommendations, based on biological data rather than guesswork.”

Byome Labs plans to initiate industrial-scale production this year and expand globally by 2026, while also expanding its R&D team to further develop microbiome-driven skincare solutions.

This technology responds to the challenge that many cosmetic products do not suit individual skin types, often leading to dissatisfaction and waste.

Byome Derma makes microbiome science accessible and consumer-friendly, providing accurate and rapid skin health assessments that empower both consumers and brands.

The company envisions a future where skin microbiome testing is a regular part of personalized beauty care, enhancing product efficacy, reducing waste, and building consumer trust through evidence-based recommendations.

Founded in December 2023, Byome Labs offers a suite of microbiome-driven products and services designed to personalize and optimize cosmetic and dermocosmetic formulations.

The company operates across three strategic sites: its microbiology lab in Clermont-Ferrand, commercial offices in Paris, and its central R&D hub in Chartres.

Byome Labs blends microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, and AI to develop precision skincare diagnostics.
