BASF unveils Ameriflor Calm for sensitive skin

Ameriflor Calm reflects BASF’s commitment to sustainable and ethical production.

NETHERLANDS – BASF’s Personal Care business has introduced Ameriflor™ Calm, a botanical active ingredient developed to improve the resilience of sensitive skin.

This product operates by reducing redness, minimizing trans-epidermal water loss, and protecting against environmental stressors.

This ingredient is sourced from the Self-Heal plant (Prunella vulgaris), cultivated on regenerative organic certified farms in Oregon under the Regenerative Organic Alliance’s standards.

Manufactured in the United States at a facility fully powered by renewable electricity, Ameriflor Calm reflects BASF’s commitment to sustainable and ethical production.

Lucilene Veira-Nunes, Global Business Management at BASF Beauty Care Solutions, stated,

“In today’s market, where consumers value transparency and efficiency, Ameriflor Calm reduces the appearance of redness, supports skin barrier function, and strengthens resistance to environmental stressors, seamlessly blending the plant-based knowledge from Indigenous traditions in the Americas with modern scientific techniques to enhance the resilience of sensitive skin.”

Sensitive skin affects a significant portion of the global population—approximately 70% of women and 60% of men, highlighting the need for practical, transparent skincare solutions.

Ameriflor Calm combines traditional botanical wisdom from Indigenous American cultures with advanced scientific methodologies to support skin barrier function and enhance skin resilience.

Clinical testing showed that a 1% concentration of Ameriflor Calm applied over 28 days led to a 10% reduction in visible redness within the first seven days and an 11% improvement in the skin’s barrier function by reducing water loss, compared to a placebo.

These results demonstrate its efficacy in calming irritated skin and strengthening its defences against environmental factors.

Recently, A German chemical company, BASF, has unveiled Trilon G, a chelating agent that utilizes glutamic acid diacetate (GLDA) chemistry.

Trilon G is designed for the Home Care and Industrial & Institutional (I&I) cleaning markets, where it enhances product effectiveness by significantly increasing the efficiency of surfactants through improved water softening.

With powerful chelating capabilities, it efficiently binds to metal ions, improving overall cleaning performance and delivering outstanding results in a range of applications such as manual dishwashing and laundry.

According to the company, this ingredient enhances BASF’s existing lineup of chelating agents, including methylglycinediacetic acid (MGDA) and tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA), and responds to the growing demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable cleaning solutions.
