dsm-firmenich introduces bioactive to combat heat-induced skin stress

It is derived from the resilient Scutellaria alpina plant and cultivated organically at high altitudes in the Alps.

SWITZERLAND – dsm-firmenich has launched ALPAFLOR® NEUROSOOTH, a novel bioactive ingredient designed to protect skin from heat-related stress amid rising global temperatures.

This innovation targets the growing challenges of thermal fluctuations, heat waves, and urban heat islands that weaken the skin barrier, heighten sensitivity, and reduce comfort.

ALPAFLOR® NEUROSOOTH interrupts the skin-mind stress cycle by blocking neuroinflammatory signals like CGRP, TSLP, and IL-33, which cause stinging and itching, while tripling β-endorphin levels in skin cells for enhanced comfort.

It builds long-term barrier strength without impacting wild populations through ethical, low-impact extraction.

Meriem Saber, Global Sustainability Director at Beauty & Care at dsm-firmenich, stated, “Cultivated responsibly, Scutellaria alpina is organically grown on old Alpine moraines at high altitude, ensuring zero impact on wild populations.”

“The supply chain is local, ethical and transparent, supporting Alpine biodiversity and responsible agricultural practices. A green, gentle extraction method preserves the plant’s chemical integrity while minimizing environmental impact.”

In vitro tests showed strong inhibition of stress mediators, while an in vivo “HeatWave Challenge” trial demonstrated 34% less redness and 26% reduced trans-epidermal water loss after two months compared to placebo.

Emotional assessments via EmoCompass® revealed up to 200% greater sensations of safety and calm, highlighting its dual physical and psychological benefits.

The ingredient supports Alpine biodiversity with a transparent, local supply chain and gentle green extraction methods, aligning with dsm-firmenich’s push for eco-friendly beauty solutions responsive to climate change.

It powers the new EVERMIND formulation line, designed for daily use to soothe irritation, bolster resilience, and foster emotional balance.

Meanwhile, dsm-firmenich and ASTech recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) along with an investment closing for strategic business cooperation in UV filter ingredients.

The agreement, signed on January 9, 2026, during a ceremony in Seoul, unites ASTech’s specialized manufacturing expertise in high-performance UV filters with DSM-firmenich’s worldwide distribution network and research capabilities.

This collaboration focuses on securing a reliable supply chain, innovating new sun care ingredients, and boosting joint marketing to capture larger shares in the evolving global sunscreen sector.
