Jyothy Labs leverages Exo following the end of Henkel partnership

Jyothy has responded by repositioning Exo from a bars‑led product to a full dishwash franchise and has initiated legal steps to protect its commercial interests.

INDIA – Jyothy Labs,  a leading Indian FMCG company headquartered in Mumbai, is fast-tracking the expansion of its in‑house dishwash brand Exo after Henkel informed the company it will not renew licence agreements for the Pril dishwash and Fa personal‑care brands beyond May 31, 2026.

The termination of the 15‑year licensing arrangement forces Jyothy to replace a meaningful portion of third‑party brand revenue and distribution reach, prompting an urgent strategic shift toward owned brands and internal capacity to limit disruption to sales and margins.

Management plans to broaden Exo’s portfolio into liquid detergents and other dishwash formats, pursue premiumisation and product innovation, and push for wider distribution to recapture shelf space and consumer mindshare lost with Pril’s exit, while cautioning that inflationary and macroeconomic pressures could temper near‑term performance. The market reacted negatively when the non‑renewal was disclosed, with Jyothy’s share price declining as investors factored in short‑term revenue and margin pressure; analysts have highlighted execution risks, including rapid SKU scaling, retailer slotting challenges and potential margin dilution from increased marketing and trade support. Concurrently, Jyothy has initiated legal proceedings to ensure an orderly transition and to assert its contractual rights regarding the exit timeline and associated obligations, and the company says it will manage stock, distribution, and trade relationships as Henkel‑branded SKUs phase out after May 31, 2026.

The key variables to watch are the speed and uptake of new Exo launches, quarterly sales‑mix and margin trends in FY27, and the outcomes of the legal process and any commercial arrangements with Henkel on inventory or transition support.

These factors will determine how quickly Jyothy can offset the loss of Pril/Fa volumes and stabilise earnings.

Jyothy Labs’ portfolio spans everyday household and personal care needs.

Its fabric care range includes Ujala fabric whitener and detergents like Henko and Mr. White.

In-home care it offers Maxo mosquito repellents and cleaners.

The personal care segment features Margo Neem soap, Neem Active toothpaste, and Fa deodorants.

For dishwashing, Jyothy Labs markets Exo antibacterial bars and Pril liquid dishwash, making it a key player in India’s consumer goods space.
