The Gebze project strengthens the company’s surfactant production base in Turkey.

TURKEY – Kale Care Chemicals, a Turkish manufacturer of chemical raw materials and speciality ingredients, has invested in a second surfactant production facility in Gebze, Turkey, raising the company’s total annual production capacity to 100,000 metric tons.
The investment comes as beauty-industry supply chains face growing pressure from raw-material shortages, climate-related disruption, and logistical barriers tied to geopolitical tensions.
In response, cosmetic companies are increasingly seeking suppliers in strategically located regions.
A Kale Care spokesperson said that the expansion is part of the company’s international growth strategy, which includes investment in surfactants, preservation systems and speciality ingredients.
The Gebze facility is expected to give the company more production flexibility, help maintain consistent quality, reduce response times, and improve supply security for customers and distribution partners worldwide.
The spokesperson stated, “We see Turkey as a strategic manufacturing and supply location for the personal care ingredients industry.”
“Its geographical position and proximity to Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and other developing markets provide important advantages in terms of both supply and customer service.”
The additional manufacturing capacity may also improve Kale Care’s ability to distribute products strategically as regional geopolitical tensions continue to create logistical challenges for the industry.
According to Kale Care, the Gebze investment covers more than one ingredient category.
Alongside surfactants, the company is developing its capabilities in preservation systems and speciality ingredients to address the changing requirements of personal-care formulators.
The company aims to broaden its portfolio with high-performance ingredients that also respond to evolving sustainability expectations.
Kale Care has seen increased interest from customers and formulators in solutions that balance performance, formulation flexibility, and sustainability.
This demand is especially evident for mild surfactants, preservation systems and multifunctional ingredients.
“Customers are increasingly looking beyond a single performance characteristic and considering factors such as biodegradability, formulation compatibility, regulatory requirements, and overall product positioning,” the spokesperson said.
According to Kale Care, Turkey’s location allows it to combine local manufacturing with efficient access to international markets.
Kale Care generates approximately 62% of its revenue from exports and works with customers and partners in more than 40 countries.
It plans to build on more than 50 years of manufacturing experience and application expertise to provide customers in Turkey and abroad with a broader choice of effective, more sustainable ingredients.
The company expects sustainability to remain a major driver of innovation in surfactants and preservation.
However, the spokesperson said that performance, formulation stability, regulatory compliance and cost will also remain important considerations when customers evaluate new technologies.
Kale Care is pursuing developments in biosurfactants and preservation technology, with the aim of creating practical, high-performance solutions that address these combined requirements.
