This move positions the company as a new benchmark setter in corporate sustainability and climate action.

USA – L’Oréal has reached 100% renewable energy across all its operated sites and stores worldwide, through its L’Oréal for the Future sustainability program.
The Group initially set a goal to transition all operated sites and retail stores to 100% renewable energy by 2030.
By accelerating this roadmap, L’Oréal fulfilled the objective ahead of schedule, confirming that as of the end of 2025, every operated plant, research and innovation centre, distribution hub, administrative office and store where it holds an electricity subscription is powered by renewable energy.
This development marks a major milestone in L’Oréal’s climate journey, reinforcing its broader decarbonization and Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduction commitments.
It effectively transforms the Group’s global energy footprint, signalling a structural move away from fossil fuels for operations.
L’Oréal describes the strategy behind this shift as a disciplined three-step logic: “use less, use better, and transition.”
First, the Group focuses on energy conservation, cutting consumption at the source through measures such as optimized lighting and adjusted temperature controls in facilities and stores.
Second, it invests in energy efficiency technologies to ensure every unit of energy is used as effectively as possible, embedding performance optimization into industrial processes and building management systems.
Third, L’Oréal covers remaining needs through renewable sources, prioritizing on‑site generation, long-term partnerships that finance new renewable projects, and the use of high‑quality energy certificates to guarantee traceability of green electricity and other renewables.
The Group emphasizes that reaching a fully renewable footprint is the result of “hundreds of local initiatives” implemented across its global zones.
These initiatives range from on‑site solar, biomass and geothermal installations to tailored energy solutions that reflect local conditions and regulatory environments.
In regions such as the SAPMENA zone, South Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa,
L’Oréal had already reached 100% renewable energy for all 23 operated sites by the end of 2023, two years ahead of the global 2025 commitment, using a mix of solar power, hydro, electric boilers, and long‑term power purchase agreements.
Similar approaches have contributed to the development of local solar and wind sectors, underlining the Group’s role in catalyzing new renewable capacity rather than relying solely on existing green supply.
L’Oréal frames this achievement not just as a technical transition, but as a human‑driven endeavor powered by teams across all zones.
The Group’s new campaign, titled “What Powers Us,” is designed to showcase the people, partnerships and on‑site projects behind the move to renewables, highlighting how local teams work daily to optimize the energy footprint and reshape surrounding energy landscapes.
The campaign invites stakeholders to “discover the human spark” behind the commitment, aligning sustainability messaging with corporate culture, employee engagement and brand positioning.
