Albéa, Clarins partner to supply sustainable packaging for Extra-Firming Cream Technology

FRANCE – Albéa Cosmetics and Fragrance, a beauty and packaging company, has collaborated with  Clarins, a French multinational cosmetics company, to provide a cap and inner cup for the refillable Extra-Firming Cream Technology.

The caps will be manufactured at Albéa Simandre in France using recycled PET, while the inner cup will be made from tinted virgin PP.

The inner cup is designed to be removable once empty and can be replaced with a new refill.

According to Albéa, refilling the cream twice can reduce its environmental footprint by 84%.

Both solutions use bi-injection technology, combining two thermoplastic materials to create products with multiple colours in a single moulding process.

Marie-Hélène Lair, head of global responsible communications at Clarins, stated, “In 2020, Clarins structured its CSR strategy and defined its raison d’être as ‘making life more beautiful, passing on a more beautiful planet.”

“It isn’t only about correcting or reducing our impact but also about acting voluntarily to fight inequality, pushing for equal development, and leaving a healthier planet for the next generation.”

Recently, Albéa partnered with Etat Pur, a French beauty brand, to introduce EcoFusion Top 50 mL recyclable tubes for their new Pure Skincare range.

Etat Pur is redesigning its packaging along eco-design principles, with the EcoFusion Top reducing plastic use by 54% compared to the previous 50 mL tube and 82% compared to the last 40 mL airless bottles.

The EcoFusion Top is made from a recyclable HDPE single-component system designed to lower the carbon footprint of packaging and promote recyclable materials.

Meanwhile, Unilever has reinforced its commitment to reducing plastic waste by testing innovative refill solutions in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.

Over the past five years, various countries have implemented refillable personal care product initiatives in collaboration with local communities and Transform companies.

The initiative aims to provide consumers with affordable, customizable product quantities while reducing virgin plastic use and tackling plastic sachet waste.

The British Beauty Council reports that 95% of cosmetics packaging in the UK is thrown away.

In addition, Innova Market Insights revealed that over 34% of global consumers now prioritize environmentally friendly packaging, such as biodegradable options, when purchasing personal care products.
