This reduction in plastic usage for its flexible tubes is expected to save approximately 8.5 metric tonnes of plastic annually.
SWITZERLAND – Amcor, a global leader in packaging solutions, in collaboration with skin care brand Bulldog, have developed the latest packaging, reducing plastic consumption by 16%.
This reduction in plastic usage for its flexible tubes is expected to save approximately 8.5 metric tonnes of plastic annually.
By lightweighting, Amcor achieves a 16.67% decrease in wall thickness.
This decrease in wall thickness pertains to the 50 mm-diameter flexible tubes utilised for Bulldog’s 100 ml and 150 ml sizes.
The close partnership between Amcor and Bulldog has been instrumental in making these modifications, which have significantly improved the sustainability of Bulldog’s products in the market.
Amcor conducted a series of rigorous trials to ensure that the squeezability and consumer experience were not compromised, providing reassurance about the product’s quality.
The results of the trials revealed that the redesigned lightweight tube maintained high print and leak-test quality.
The compatibility of the redesigned tube sleeve with the existing tube cap and shoulder ensures that the filling process remains unaffected.
The proportion of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in the tubes increased to over 62% as a result of the weight reduction, a promising step towards a more sustainable future.
“This latest iteration of the 100ml and 150ml flexible tubes is proof of both Bulldog’s and Amcor’s commitment to a circular society where more sustainable consumption and recycling are the norm,” remarked Joe Horton, sales director at Amcor.
“By applying our technical expertise and working together, we have found an innovative way to develop an even more sustainable packaging solution.”
Since 2017, Bulldog has been using certified sugarcane from Amcor for its virgin material, ensuring attractive and more sustainable products.
James Barnes, Brand Director at Bulldog, said, “The result of our continuing successful collaboration with Amcor is a consumer-facing product that has enhanced its sustainability credentials while still looking highly attractive.”
Recently, Amcor partnered with Fedrigoni, a manufacturer of self-adhesive labels and paper packaging, to develop a new flexible wet wipe solution designed to enhance the recyclability of personal care and household products.
The innovative solution merges Amcor’s AmPrima Plus flow wrap with Fedrigoni’s semi-rigid label, resulting in a lighter and more environmentally friendly product.
