This product is a freshwater biodegradable, non-nano micropowder formulation.
USA – Eastman, an American supplier of speciality materials, has unveiled Esmeri CC1N10, a biodegradable micropowder tailored for colour cosmetics, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional synthetic polymer microparticles.
According to Eastman, this product is freshwater biodegradable, formulated in a non-nano micropowder format, and sustainably sourced from 63% wood pulp.
It complies with the European Commission’s regulation on synthetic polymer microparticles (Regulation EU 2023/2055) and aligns with the European Union’s Zero Pollution Action Plan, which aims to reduce microplastic emissions by 30% by 2030.
This micropowder enhances soft-focus optical effects, improves colour intensity and payoff, and delivers uniform coverage and a refined sensorial experience.
Its lipophilic compatibility makes it a viable substitute for traditional microparticles, offering stability and superior formulation adaptability.
Chris Killian, senior vice president and chief technology and sustainability officer at Eastman, stated, “We are proud to launch Esmeri as the latest solution from Eastman showcasing our long-standing history and expertise with cellulosics technology.”
“Esmeri reflects our broader commitment to aligning growth with sustainability by advancing circularity and delivering high-performance materials that are better for people and the planet, with more to come across the personal care space.”
Esmeri CC1N10’s unique properties allow it to scatter light optimally, filling in fine lines and wrinkles to create a smooth, even finish across various applications.
Esmeri™ CC1N10 has earned certification from the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®), reinforcing Eastman’s dedication to ethical sourcing and sustainable forestry management.
Meanwhile, Eastman recently partnered with SUQQU, the prestigious Japanese beauty brand, to introduce a sustainable packaging solution for its latest setting powder compact.
This collaboration marks a significant shift in luxury beauty packaging, as SUQQU adopts Eastman Cristal One, a recyclable copolyester that blends elegance with environmental responsibility.
Recognizing the need for a sustainable alternative to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), SUQQU worked closely with Eastman to develop a luxury compact that meets both functional and aesthetic standards.
Cristal One not only enhances the durability and visual appeal of the packaging but also ensures compatibility with municipal recycling systems, making it a viable end-of-life solution for cosmetics brands.
Cristal One is recognized by both the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) and RecyClass, confirming its recyclability within the RIC1 (resin identification code 1) stream.
