SV Labs enhances manufacturing capabilities with direct compression tablet technology

This investment reflects a broader industry shift toward sustainable, high-performance product formats that align with evolving consumer values.

USA – SV Labs, a contract formulator and manufacturer of beauty and personal care products, has expanded its manufacturing capabilities with the introduction of direct compression tablet technology at its Beach facility in Watsonville, California.

This strategic move positions the company at the forefront of sustainable product innovation in North America.

This new capability enables the production of solid-format tablets for beauty, personal care, and home care applications using a cost-effective, scalable process that eliminates the need for water.

By using direct compression, SV Labs can now create concentrated, anhydrous tablets that support refillable systems, reduce shipping weight, and minimize environmental impact, addressing growing consumer and brand demand for eco-conscious solutions.

Historically, such technology has been concentrated in Asia.

However, SV Labs’ investment localizes this advanced manufacturing process in the U.S., offering domestic brands a reliable, high-quality alternative with faster turnaround times and streamlined supply chains.

Graham Orriss, CEO  at SV Labs, stated, “The driving force behind this investment was clear: our customers.”

“They’re asking for more sustainable formats, local supply chains and smarter ways to innovate. By bringing direct compression technology to the US, we not only meet those needs, but also make it easier to collaborate with our partners on formulation and product development.”

The direct compression line complements SV Labs’ existing suite of anhydrous technologies, which includes wet granulation, hot pours, powders, and effervescents.

With nearly five decades of formulation and manufacturing expertise, the company now offers one of the most comprehensive portfolios of waterless solutions in the industry.

SV Labs operates four manufacturing sites across the U.S. and Canada, ensuring operational resilience and scalability.

This latest investment reflects a broader industry shift toward sustainable, high-performance product formats that align with evolving consumer values.

Recently, SV Labs acquired Sigan Industries Group Inc., a strategic move that significantly expands its footprint in the North American beauty and personal care manufacturing sector.

The acquisition, backed by San Francisco Equity Partners, brings together two contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) with complementary strengths in formulation, production, and customer service.

Sigan Industries has built a 26-year legacy as a full-service CDMO specializing in skincare, haircare, body care, and over-the-counter (OTC) products.

Its reputation for innovation and operational excellence aligns closely with SV Labs’ mission to deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions to a diverse client base.

As part of the deal, Sigan’s shareholders retain a meaningful ownership stake in the combined entity, which SV Labs CEO Graham Orriss will lead.
