Graphic Packaging and Radienz Living unveil recyclable paperboard package for laundry pods

The launch is set to transform the laundry pod segment by offering a safer and more eco-friendly alternative to plastic packaging without compromising on durability or consumer convenience.

USA – Graphic Packaging International and Radienz Living, an American manufacturer of home and personal care products, have unveiled the first child-resistant, curbside-recyclable paperboard package specifically designed for laundry pods in the U.S. market.

This new packaging, called CleanClose™ with ChildBlock™, is a significant departure from the conventional flexible plastic pouches typically used, as it merges child safety with environmental sustainability in a single solution.

The CleanClose™ package is made from paperboard containing 50% recycled fibre and has earned certification as child-resistant under the stringent U.S. regulatory standard 16 CFR 1700.20.

Its design ensures that young children cannot easily access the laundry pods inside, providing parents with peace of mind about household safety.

In addition, it is prequalified as widely recyclable through curbside programs, making it convenient for consumers to recycle without special disposal methods.

Ernesto Levy, CEO at Radienz Living, stated, “This paperboard pack represents the next chapter in laundry pod packaging — safe, curbside recyclable, and built for the realities of today’s supply chains.”

“Our long-standing focus on innovation and collaboration made this possible, and we’re proud to offer our customers a meaningful step forward.”

Beyond safety and sustainability, the package offers practical advantages for brands and retailers.

It ships flat, which improves warehousing and shipping efficiency, and provides at least 10% more space efficiency compared to traditional pouches.

The package is strong, having passed top-load testing of up to 400 pounds, which supports self-palletization and e-commerce fulfilment.

It also accommodates up to 160 laundry pods, making it suitable for bulk purchases in club stores and large-format retail environments.

This innovation follows Radienz Living’s earlier success with a recyclable club-size pouch that significantly reduced plastic usage by 80%, reinforcing their commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of laundry care packaging.

Radienz Living offerings include laundry detergent pods, dishwashing pacs, disinfectant and baby wipes, facial and cleaning wipes, all-purpose household cleaners, and dryer sheets.
