BASF expands Asia footprint with new lkyl Polyglucosides (APGs) plant in Chonburi

This expansion not only reinforces BASF’s supply chain resilience in the region but also supports its global ambition to lead in sustainable chemistry solutions for the personal and industrial care markets.

THAILAND – BASF has strengthened its position in Asia by launching a new Alkyl Polyglucosides (APG) production facility at its Bangpakong site in Chonburi, Thailand.

This expansion addresses the growing demand for sustainable surfactants in the region and enhances BASF’s capability to serve customers across personal care, home care, and industrial sectors with increased agility and flexibility from a robust regional supply network.

APGs are bio-based, readily biodegradable, and mild secondary surfactants derived entirely from natural, renewable raw materials.

Their sustainability profile, combined with their non-ionic nature, makes them highly versatile for blending with other surfactants.

These characteristics make APGs particularly suitable for a wide range of applications, including personal care products, household and institutional cleaning agents, industrial formulations, and agricultural markets.

The new facility in Thailand complements BASF’s existing global APG production network, which includes plants in Düsseldorf, Germany; Cincinnati, Ohio, USA; and Jinshan, China.

The Bangpakong expansion is part of BASF’s strategic response to rapidly growing, dynamic markets in Asia, enabling the company to enhance regional supply capabilities, shorten delivery times, and improve service flexibility.

In addition, a new APG production line is under construction in Cincinnati, scheduled to start in 2026, boosting BASF’s capacity in North America.

Mary Kurian, President of BASF’s Care Chemicals division, stated, “This investment reinforces our commitment to being a reliable partner for customers across personal care, home care, and industrial sectors.”

“By expanding our APG production in Thailand, we’re enhancing regional supply capabilities, enabling faster, more flexible service, and supporting the growing demand for sustainable, high-performance solutions.”

By increasing APG production in Thailand, BASF strengthens its position in a high-growth geography and supports the increasing demand for sustainable, high-performance chemical solutions.

The Care Chemicals division at BASF serves multiple industries, offering ingredients for personal care, home care, industrial and institutional cleaning, and technical applications.

The division is a leading global supplier of chemicals for cosmetics and detergents industries, known for innovative and sustainable product development.

The expanded APG production capacity ensures BASF continues to meet diverse industry needs with sustainable solutions that combine environmental responsibility with economic performance.
