Accessplus Communications unveils Smartskin Africa for custom beauty solutions

This device aims to fill this knowledge gap by providing data-driven, personalized skincare plans powered by advanced facial-scanning technology.

GHANA – Accessplus Communications Ltd, a Ghanaian telecommunications and ICT service provider, has launched Smartskin Africa, a groundbreaking AI-powered skincare platform that delivers personalized skin analysis and product recommendations tailored to African skin.

This innovation aims to address the widespread lack of knowledge about many people’s skin types and to provide scientifically informed skincare guidance rather than blindly following trends.

According to the company, Users can upload or take a selfie, which the AI analyzes across 15 parameters, including acne, uneven tone, dark spots, hydration, wrinkles, dark circles, and skin firmness, generating a personalized skincare report and product advice.

Smartskin Africa represents a significant advancement in Ghana’s beauty and wellness technology sector, combining deep expertise from computer engineers and dermatologists globally who have trained the AI system with a large dataset representative of the diverse African skin tones.

The platform goes beyond fundamental analysis by serving as a skin-tracking tool that helps users monitor gradual changes in their skin over time, accounting for factors like weather, dehydration, and stress.

This feature enables users to scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of skincare products and adjust their routines in response to real-time changes in skin condition.

CEO of Accessplus Communications Ltd, Kelvin Boateng, stated, “Most people do not know their skin. Most people do not know the type of skin they have.”

“A lot of people follow the masses using products simply because they saw them on TV or because someone else said it worked for them.”

The platform encourages users to conduct scans under good lighting, makeup-free, preferably in the morning, for the most accurate analysis.

Notably, the platform is designed for skincare management, not for diagnosing severe skin diseases, and users are advised to consult medical professionals for serious concerns.

The launch of Smartskin Africa is positioned as a milestone in the use of AI technology in Africa’s beauty industry, offering accessible solutions where expert skincare advice has historically been limited.

The platform’s ability to tailor recommendations specifically to the nuances of African skin, which varies widely across the continent, marks a critical step towards personalized, tech-driven beauty care in Ghana and beyond.
