Lipoid Kosmetik secures halal certification from Halal Certification Services

SWITZERLAND – Halal Certification Services (HCS), based in Switzerland, has officially certified Lipoid Kosmetik, a Swiss specialist in natural raw materials for cosmetics.

This move verifies that the company’s production facilities, manufacturing processes, raw materials, storage facilities, and packaging all adhere to strict Islamic halal requirements. 

This accreditation from the internationally recognized HCS, which evaluates firms across food, beverages, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, confirms compliance after rigorous audits by independent specialists. 

The certification underscores Lipoid Kosmetik’s adherence to high benchmarks for safety, hygiene, integrity, and consumer health protection.

Over 92% of Lipoid Kosmetik’s existing portfolio already aligns with halal principles, and this certification enables the launch of fully certified products to attract Muslim consumers and brand partners worldwide. 

The move supports growth in the expanding global halal cosmetics sector, driven by demand for inclusive beauty options free from prohibited ingredients like alcohol derived from intoxicants such as fermented grapes or dates, though naturally fermented ethanol below 1% concentration remains permissible. 

Key markets like Indonesia, India, and Korea lead in Muslim spending on cosmetics, fueled by Gen Z preferences amplified through social media.

This development aligns with rising trends in halal-certified personal care, exemplified by Kao’s earlier launch of a halal antiperspirant gel and spray tailored for hijab-wearing women in Indonesia’s humid climate, providing odor protection while respecting religious needs. 

HCS certification processes for cosmetics involve scrutinizing ingredients like glycerin or stearic acid for halal origins, ensuring no cross-contamination in production chains.

Lipoid Kosmetik’s general production site certificate is publicly available, with product-specific ones accessible via their platform.

Meanwhile, Lipoid Kosmetik secured its sixth straight EcoVadis Platinum Medal in 2025, ranking in the top 1% of over 150,000 evaluated companies worldwide.

This marks the 11th consecutive year of top-tier recognition, with the firm improving its overall score through advancements in all four assessed areas.

EcoVadis, a leading sustainability rating provider, bases evaluations on environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

Platinum status underscores Lipoid Kosmetik’s leadership in corporate responsibility, contributing positively to people and the planet through integrated sustainability strategies. 

The rating process emphasizes compliance with global standards like ILO and UN principles on human rights, alongside waste reduction and resource efficiency.
