Gillette invests USD 1B in Boston headquarters expansion and innovation center

This is the brand’s largest-ever commitment to the city founded 125 years ago.

USA – Procter & Gamble’s Gillette division has unveiled plans to invest nearly USD 1 billion in acquiring and developing 232 A Street in South Boston as its new Grooming Headquarters and Technical Innovation Center.

This is the brand’s largest-ever commitment to the city founded 125 years ago.

This strategic move consolidates global grooming leadership, commercial operations and R&D into a 324,000+ square-foot purpose-built campus adjacent to its historic 31-acre South Boston site along Fort Point Channel.

The facility, already permitted for advanced R&D space with ground-floor retail and community amenities, will house about 750 employees focused on next-generation product development, collaboration and talent growth.

It forms part of a USD 1.5 billion Massachusetts program, including Andover manufacturing expansions, set to relocate South Boston production starting 2026 and a long-term campus redevelopment into a mixed-use innovation district.

P&G Gillette leaders emphasize Boston’s world-class innovation ecosystem, stating the investment equips teams with modern resources for daily collaboration and groundbreaking grooming technologies.

“Our nearly USD 1 billion commitment underscores belief in Boston as a global hub,” they noted, enabling an environment that motivates employees and drives future growth.

Public enhancements feature 1.5 acres of accessible waterfront space, improved Harborwalk connectivity, bike infrastructure, public art, shuttles and flood-resilient berms.

Owned by Breakthrough Properties (Tishman Speyer and Bellco Capital JV), the CBRE-facilitated site purchase advances toward construction around 2026/2027.

Officials including Governor Maura Healey praised it as a “powerful vote of confidence” amid economic challenges, retaining skilled jobs and countering relocations elsewhere.

Business advocates view the new-build as a rare boost for sluggish construction, signaling faith in Boston’s life sciences-style R&D momentum.

This anchors Gillette’s enduring Massachusetts roots while positioning it for 21st-century innovation in razors, skin care and sustainability.

Meanwhile, Gillette Venus has broadened its product lineup with a pioneering pubic shaving regimen, the first to receive dermatological endorsement from the Skin Health Alliance.

This upgraded collection builds on the brand’s 2021 launch of pubic hair and skin care solutions, targeting the unique challenges of grooming in this sensitive area where 80% of women rely on razors yet 95% face issues like itching, irritation, bumps, or unsuitable products.
