Linda Rendle to step down as Clorox CEO

This move marks the end of her 23-year journey with the company that began in 2003

USA – The Clorox Company is entering a pivotal leadership transition after Chair and CEO Linda Rendle announced she is stepping down for health reasons, prompting the Board of Directors to launch a comprehensive search for the company’s next chief executive.

Rendle cited health reasons after much thoughtful consideration for her decision to step down. She was named CEO in September 2020 and added the Board Chair role in January 2024, becoming one of the few women leading an S&P 500 company when promoted amid a 22% sales jump during the pandemic.

Prior to becoming CEO, she served as president, leading all of Clorox’s businesses and operations.

During her time as CEO, Rendle championed a cultural shift at Clorox, moving the company from being “nice” to being “kind”, a culture where debate is valued, expected, and diverse opinions matter.

Rendle will remain Chair and CEO during the search process until a successor is formally appointed, and she has committed to serving in an advisory role after the new CEO is named to drive business performance and ensure a smooth transition.

Matthew J. Shattock, lead independent director of The Clorox Company Board of Directors, stated, “Linda has modernized our digital and operational foundation, sharpened the portfolio toward faster-growing health and hygiene categories, and accelerated innovation while continuing to invest in our brands, people and growth.”

“We fully respect and support her personal decision and are confident that the process we are putting in place will result in a strong leader who is well-positioned to lead Clorox into its next chapter of growth and value creation.”

The comprehensive CEO search will be led by an independent CEO search committee of the Board, with support from a leading executive search firm.

In a personal blog post, Rendle reflected on her tenure at Clorox, stating she is fully committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the leader the Board appoints as her successor.
