IMCD revamps Cologne technical center to meet growing formulation demand
This facility positions IMCD Germany to strengthen its technical expertise while providing partners with state-of-the-art development infrastructure in one of Europe’s most dynamic metropolitan regions.
GERMANY – IMCD Group has fully upgraded its application laboratories for Coatings & Construction and Home Care I&I at BioCampus Cologne, a premier science and technology park in Germany.
Through these dedicated laboratories, IMCD Germany addresses the increasing need for practical formulation assistance, technical services, application-focused training, and close partnership collaboration.

The Home Care I&I Application Laboratory, which launched in Cologne in 2016, is part of a global network of 13 laboratory sites staffed by specialists in cleaning and care solutions.
The updated Cologne facility now includes dedicated work zones for laundry care, dishwashing, surface care and cleaning, plus car care and air care.

Meanwhile, the Coatings & Construction Application Laboratory originated in Cologne in 2008 and now operates within a worldwide network of 14 Coatings & Construction laboratories staffed by over 50 technical experts.
Clients in decorative and industrial paints, construction materials and adhesives, printing inks, and textile and paper products will gain from increased capacity and a full spectrum of services.

The leadership team at the opening included Jane Wu (Business Group Director Home Care I&I), Sami Valkama (Global Technical Director, BG Coatings & Construction), Dr. Christoph Garbotz (Managing Director), Fanélie Jaeglé (Global Technical Director BG Home Care I&I), and Stephan Nilius (BU Manager Germany and BG Director Coatings & Construction EMEA).
This move comes shortly after IMCD recently reopened its fully modernised Food & Nutrition application laboratory in Cologne, marking a significant investment in technical infrastructure for Germany’s food and beverage industry.
The upgraded facility now operates as part of a newly established life science hub, bringing together food and nutrition, pharmaceutical, and beauty and personal care laboratories at a single location for the first time.
