The appointments reflect both perfumers’ exceptional contributions to fine fragrance creation and their leadership in shaping global olfactory trends.

SWITZERLAND – dsm-firmenich has announced the promotion of two of its most accomplished perfumers, Marie Salamagne and Frank Voelkl, to the prestigious title of Master Perfumer, a distinction the company has not conferred since 2016.
The appointments mark a significant milestone in the company’s fine fragrance leadership and creative excellence.
The dual promotion, effective July 2026, elevates Salamagne and Voelkl into an elite group of dsm-firmenich Master Perfumers, joining renowned names such as Alberto Morillas, Olivier Cresp, Quentin Bisch, and Christian Carbonnel.
This is the first time in a decade that the company has appointed new Master Perfumers, underscoring the rarity and prestige of the honour.
According to the company, the title of Master Perfumer represents the highest level of creative achievement, technical mastery, and industry influence within dsm-firmenich’s perfumery division.
Emmanuel Butstraen, President Perfumery & Beauty, dsm-firmenich, stated, “We are especially proud to see Marie Salamagne and Frank Voelkl join the ranks of our Master Perfumers.”
“Being named a Master Perfumer at dsm-firmenich is a rare distinction that recognizes exceptional talents whose creations combine artistic excellence with commercial success, generating some of the industry’s most significant fragrance achievements for brands around the world.”
Marie Salamagne, previously recognized as a Principal Perfumer, has built a celebrated portfolio spanning luxury fashion, beauty, and niche fragrance houses.
Her creations are known for their emotional depth, refined use, and innovative structures that balance tradition with modernity.
With her promotion, Salamagne becomes one of the few female Master Perfumers in the company’s history, further diversifying dsm-firmenich’s top creative leadership.
Frank Voelkl, also formerly a Principal Perfumer, is acclaimed for his bold, contemporary compositions and expertise in sustainable fragrance design.
His work often explores new structures and environmentally conscious ingredients, aligning with dsm-firmenich’s commitment to science-backed, responsible perfumery.
Voelkl’s elevation to Master Perfumer recognizes his consistent delivery of commercially successful and critically acclaimed fragrances for global brands.
The appointments strengthen dsm-firmenich’s position as a leader in fine fragrance innovation, particularly as consumer demand grows for personalized, sustainable, and emotionally resonant scents.
By promoting from within, the company highlights its investment in long-term creative talent development and its confidence in internal expertise to drive future growth.
The move also signals dsm-firmenich’s intent to maintain its competitive edge in the luxury and prestige fragrance segments, where Master Perfumers play a pivotal role in brand storytelling and product differentiation.
