The action carries reputational and financial costs tied to product returns, logistics, and heightened regulatory scrutiny, even as the company seeks to contain the issue to a limited set of batch codes.

GERMANY – Henkel Corporation has announced a voluntary nationwide recall in the United States of its Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Grip 6.76 fl. oz (200 ml) Extra Strong Mousse due to a packaging defect that could cause the product to leak under pressure, creating a potential explosion hazard.
The recall covers Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Grip 6.76 fl. oz/200 ml aluminium cans across 25 specific production lots, identified by batch codes printed on the back of the can.
Affected batch codes are: 2901X4577N, 2901X4578N, 290265P91O, 290665Q30O, 290855N31O, 290866R38P, 290994281N, 291046L06P, 291174W17N, 291435H76O, 291435H77O, 291455N33O, 291515A59O, 291515A99O, 291515B01O, 291555N33O, 291615B01O, 291616B68P, 291716B69P, 291825E960, 291925E96O, 292015B73O, 2928Y538BO, 2928Y539BO, and 293066U32P.
According to the company, the product was distributed nationwide through 21 distributors and sold to both hair professionals and retail consumers in Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington.
Henkel confirmed that no other products in its portfolio are included in this action, and Osis+ Grip cans with batch codes outside the listed ranges are considered safe for use.
Henkel initiated the recall after learning of a packaging issue that may allow the mousse to leak from the can when subjected to pressure, which the company says creates a risk of explosion.
The issue came to light through one consumer complaint and two salon reports; the consumer complaint included a report of bruising to the hand, while no other injuries have been identified to date.
The voluntary recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which classifies the product as a cosmetic and cites a “packaging defect” as the recall reason.
Consumers and salon professionals who possess affected cans are advised to stop using them and return the products to their place of purchase for a full refund.
Henkel’s North American operations, headquartered in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, manage a broad portfolio of brands in laundry care, household cleaning, personal care, and adhesives, including Dial, Snuggle, Persil, and Schwarzkopf.
The company reported approximately USD 6.1 billion in North American sales in 2025, representing 26% of its global sales, and employs more than 7,000 people across the U.S. and Canada.
