Tide Free & Gentle expands its portfolio with Coastal Oasis Scent
The launch expands the sensitive-skin portfolio beyond its long-standing fragrance-free formula.
USA – Tide Free & Gentle has introduced Tide Fresh & Gentle with Coastal Oasis Scent, marking the first-ever scented addition to the Tide Free & Gentle line in more than 30 years.
The move responds to sustained consumer demand among sensitive-skin shoppers who want the sensory cue of fragrance without compromising on gentleness or cleaning performance, and it arrives alongside a second, Target-exclusive scent option.
For the first time in over 30 years, Tide Free & Gentle is adding a second product to its lineup rather than remaining a single, fragrance-free offering, signalling a shift from “no scent” to “gentle scent” within the same dermatologist-tested platform.
Procter & Gamble frames the innovation as a response to research indicating that more than 80% of sensitive-skin consumers who buy “free” detergents actually want more fragrance in their routines, using scent both as a signal of cleanliness and as part of the laundry experience.
Kimberly Romine, Fabric Care Scientist at Procter & Gamble, stated, “We spent months speaking directly with sensitive skin consumers about the role fragrance plays in their laundry experience and what they would need to feel confident choosing a scented detergent.”

The brand’s positioning emphasizes that consumers should no longer have to choose between gentleness, scent, and performance, and that Tide Fresh & Gentle is designed to deliver all three in one solution.
Both the Tide Fresh & Gentle formula and its Coastal Oasis fragrance are dermatologist-tested for sensitive skin, and the product is made without dyes, aligning with the original Free & Gentle promise of a powerful yet gentle wash.
The liquid retains the “Free You Can See” translucent formula introduced in recent years, which Tide describes as a clearer liquid made from refined, purified raw materials intended to help achieve whiter whites, brighter colours, and enhanced cleaning power.
On performance, the brand asserts that Tide Fresh & Gentle maintains the same core benefits as the original Free & Gentle: a science-backed approach trusted by consumers; an advanced polymer to help release soil from synthetic fabrics; lab-tested cleaning performance consistent with Tide’s standards; and suitability for everyday loads, including delicate items.
The “Coastal Oasis” scent is positioned as a relaxing, peace-evoking fragrance designed to feel like a brief escape during the laundry routine. Its notes are described as a curated blend of light fruit and floral accords, specifically listing pear, linen, amber, peach, jasmine, and lily.
The brand clarifies that Tide Fresh & Gentle is an additional scented option and does not replace the original fragrance-free Tide Free & Gentle, preserving the legacy product for consumers who prefer no scent at all.
