Aptar Beauty adds Novus Advance pump to all-plastic dispensing range
The new pump’s cartridge, made from polypropylene and polyethylene, can be recycled in PET and PE streams when combined with HDPE, PP, or PET bottles.
FRANCE – Aptar Beauty has expanded its Advance Collection with Novus Advance, a polyolefin-based cosmetic pump for hair and body care that can enter PET and PE recycling streams when paired with compatible bottles.
The new pump uses a cartridge manufactured from polypropylene and polyethylene, allowing it to be recycled in PET and PE streams when combined with high-density polyethylene, polypropylene or PET bottles.
The product features a POM-free structure and can incorporate post-consumer recycled resin, addressing a longstanding barrier to cosmetic packaging circularity.
Conventional dispensing pumps frequently rely on polyoxymethylene components and metal springs that complicate recycling by introducing incompatible materials into single-stream systems.
Novus Advance follows the earlier introduction of the GSA Advance dispensing pump and the PZ Advance spray pump, forming part of an all-plastic pump line launched last year to improve recyclability across the portfolio.
Outer Bellow System Delivers Dose Consistency
According to Aptar Beauty, the pump employs an outer bellow system positioned outside the dosage chamber, providing 350-microlitre and 500-microlitre doses with consistency across products including oils, creams and serums.
The design accommodates formulations from low to high viscosity, including those containing short-chain alkanes, spanning body, sun and hair care applications.
This viscosity range matters for brands formulating diverse product textures, since dispensing accuracy directly affects consumer experience and product waste.
The pump also incorporates a twist-to-lock system and requires no cap, reducing component count and simplifying packout for manufacturers.
Testing Validates E-Commerce Shipping Performance
Aptar Beauty said the pump passed in-house ISTA-6 testing for omnichannel packaging, covering the demands of e-commerce shipping.
This certification has become increasingly important as beauty brands shift volume toward direct-to-consumer channels, where packages encounter varied handling conditions without retail protective packaging.
Leakage during transit represents a significant source of returns and consumer complaints in the segment, making dispensing reliability a commercial priority alongside sustainability credentials.
Leadership Signals Broader Polyolefin Expansion
Luigi Garofalo, personal care and home care global category director at Aptar Beauty, said Novus Advance marked another step in the company’s continued focus on ensuring its products supported circular economy efforts.
He added that Aptar planned to expand the full-polyolefin collection to other dosages and applications to facilitate the sustainable transition for brands.
The commitment signals a broader strategy of converting legacy dispensing formats to mono-material designs as regulatory pressure mounts on packaging recyclability across European and North American markets, where extended producer responsibility fees increasingly penalise hard-to-recycle formats.
