Dr. Squatch expands into sun care with SPF 30 spray

This move marks Dr. Squatch’s entry into the sun care category, targeting men’s historically low sunscreen use due to concerns over greasy textures and subpar ingredients.

USA – Dr. Squatch, a top natural men’s personal care brand in the U.S., has launched its first sun care product, a mineral-based SPF 30 spray sunscreen tailored for men.

This innovative spray offers broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection powered by zinc oxide, which sits on the skin’s surface for immediate defence rather than being absorbed into the skin, making it a gentler option than chemical sunscreens.

The formula contains over 98% natural-origin ingredients, including skin-nourishing vitamin E and coconut alkanes, ensuring a lightweight, non-greasy finish.

Its convenient spray design enables fast, uniform application, ideal for beach outings, hikes, or backyard activities. Users are advised to apply generously 15 minutes prior to sun exposure and reapply every 2 hours.

Available in two distinctive scents, Coconut Castaway (with creamy coconut, sea salt, and mandarin notes) and Amber Solstice (a warm, elevated fragrance), it transforms routine sun protection into an enjoyable, sensory experience.

Josh Friedman, CEO at Dr. Squatch, stated, “Sun protection is one of the most important steps in any routine, but it’s often overlooked or avoided. With our new Spray Sunscreen, we’re making it easier and more enjoyable for guys to protect their skin with a natural formula that feels great, performs, and smells incredible.”

The brand positions the product as high-performance and natural, aligning with its reputation in grooming essentials.

The launch comes at a time when the global sun care market is expanding rapidly, rising from USD 15.4 billion in 2025 to USD 16.6 billion in 2026 at a CAGR of 7.7%, according to a report by Research and Markets.

This momentum reflects greater awareness of UV‑related skin damage, rising disposable incomes, and the availability of diverse sunscreen formulations.

Looking ahead, the market is forecast to reach USD 22 billion by 2030, driven by reef‑safe innovation, premium skincare adoption, online retail expansion, and anti-ageing protection trends.

In a similar move, Kolmar Korea, a pioneer in the K-beauty sunscreen surge, is pushing into scalp and hair protection markets with fresh innovations.

The company has rolled out the “Scalp Sun Essence,” a high-strength formula boasting SPF50+ that applies directly to the scalp for seamless UV defence.

This essence tackles the limitations of traditional sunscreens, which often feel too greasy for scalp use, by blending water- and oil-soluble UV blockers into a lightweight texture.

Kolmar plans to follow up with spray formats and matching scalp cleansers, aiming for a Korean launch this year and a U.S. entry next year.

Their work aligns with the booming “skinification” trend, treating the scalp like an extension of facial skincare routines.

Beyond scalp, Kolmar developed a photoprotective hair composition to shield strands from UV and other damaging light.

They also pioneered a novel testing method to quantify hair UV efficacy, with results published in international journals, strengthening their leadership in next-gen sun care.

These steps build on Kolmar’s global dominance in K-sunscreen by broadening protection to untapped areas such as hair and scalp.
