Lubrizol, Dempsey partner to expand botanical ingredients in Canada

Lubrizol selected Dempsey because of its expertise in serving the Canadian beauty and personal care market.

CANADA – Lubrizol has teamed up with Dempsey Beauty Ingredients, appointing it as the exclusive Canadian distributor of its Advanced Botanical Ingredients portfolio.

The partnership will expand Canadian beauty brands’ access to sustainable, nature-inspired ingredients for skin care, hair care and other personal care applications.

Through the agreement, Canadian brands will have local access to Lubrizol’s botanical solutions, including Actizyme, Actifcol, Actisoothe, Actifoliate, Stevisse, Lapagyl, Oxylance and Resulook, as well as the Actiphyte and Actismart collections.

Dempsey Beauty Ingredients supports formulators and brand owners with innovative ingredient solutions backed by technical expertise and market knowledge.

Lubrizol’s distribution manager, Eric Painting, said Dempsey’s strong customer relationships, application expertise, and commitment to service make it an ideal partner to help beauty brands develop and launch innovative, nature-inspired products.

According to Lubrizol, the partnership reinforces its commitment to providing Canadian customers with local support, technical expertise and access to a broad portfolio of high-performance botanical ingredients developed to meet growing consumer demand for naturally derived and sustainable beauty solutions.

The agreement comes amid continued uncertainty in the Canadian beauty market following increased tariff tensions between the United States and Canada.

According to a report by Circana, Canada’s prestige beauty market generated approximately CAD 2.2 billion (USD 54 billion) in sales in the first half of 2026, representing 6% growth compared with the same period in 2025.

Canada announced that it would match the US’s 50% cosmetics tariffs on a “dollar-for-dollar” basis from September 8.

Beauty products that cross the border more than once will also be taxed each time, requiring brands to consider the full cost of importing and distributing their products.

In a similar move, Univar Solutions USA LLC, through its Ingredients + Specialities (I+S) division, recently signed an exclusive distribution partnership with the CABB Group to expand access to high-purity glycolic acid, including the flagship ingredient GLYCOS® Clear 70, across the United States and Canada.

The partnership specifically covers CABB’s glycolic acid portfolio, including GLYCOS® Clear 70, a high-purity solution known for its reliability in facial and body care formulations.
