Grounded becomes first B Corp-Certified home and personal care brand in Kenya

This accomplishment is a reflection of the brand’s dedication to making a positive impact on its community, environment, and customers.

KENYA – Grounded, a Kenyan company specializing in non-toxic home and personal care products, has proudly achieved B Corp certification, making it the first brand in Kenya’s sector to attain this prestigious status.

This certification underscores Grounded’s strong commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices, setting a new benchmark for the home and personal care industry in the country.

The B Corp certification, awarded by the global non-profit B Lab, is given to companies that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

The company joins more than 8,000 Certified B Corporations worldwide, spanning over 90 countries and various industries, all united by a goal to build an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.

Alison Root, Chief Commercial Officer and co-founder at Grounded, stated, “We believe in business that’s transparent, local, and values-driven.”

“We hope to see more African companies join this movement, creating a ripple effect of positive change across the continent.”

Grounded’s journey to certification involved a thorough independent assessment across key areas, including governance, worker welfare, community engagement, environmental impact, and customer relations.

As a Certified B Corp, Grounded legally commits to considering the broader impact of its decisions beyond financial profits, demonstrating a long-term, responsible approach to business.

Women comprise 60% of Grounded’s workforce, with many holding positions in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Furthermore, 80% of its employees are youth, reflecting the company’s focus on youth empowerment.

Grounded also maintains complete transparency regarding its product ingredients, proudly disclosing all components used.

Supporting local economies, 80% of Grounded’s ingredients are sourced from African farms, with 75% of its packaging made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic sourced within Kenya.

Additionally, 75% of its products use organic-certified oils such as coconut and baobab, grown locally in Kenya.

Environmentally, Grounded operates a circular supply chain that fosters sustainable livelihoods and ecological stewardship.

According to Grounded, its manufacturing processes are green, supported by an environmental management system that seeks to minimize waste and resource use.

Grounded’s extensive product range, which includes over 50 items, is distributed across Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania, providing consumers with safe, biodegradable, and effective alternatives free from harmful chemicals.
