O Boticário unveils mushroom fragrance collection in America

The launch targets the Generation Z demographic.

USA – Brazilian beauty brand O Boticário has launched its “first-ever” mushroom fragrance collection in the United States, featuring two unique perfumes: Egeo Cogu and Egeo Cogu Mellow. 

These fragrances represent a groundbreaking innovation by incorporating the boletus edulis mushroom, a rare ingredient traditionally used in culinary applications, now applied in perfumery for the first time.

Developed in collaboration with the German fragrance house Symrise, the Egeo Cogu collection offers an unconventional olfactory experience combining mushroom accords with gourmand and fruity notes. 

The Egeo Cogu Eau de Toilette is an oriental fruity scent with top notes of caramel, blackberry, raspberry, and black currant; a middle note of boletus edulis mushroom, praline, jasmine, and freesia; and base notes of crème brûlée, musk, amber, and sandalwood. 

The Egeo Cogu Mellow variant has a comforting fruity gourmand profile, with mushroom, pear, and pepper top notes, violet, cinnamon, pink crystal, liquor, and rose in the middle, and Madagascar vanilla, musk, almond, and amber at the base.

Carolina Carrasco, O Boticário’s branding and communication director, emphasized the innovation by stating, “We identified this ingredient as an emerging trend closely connected to Gen Z, and saw an opportunity to deliver unprecedented innovation and sensory experiences.”

“The accord created with Boletus Edulis mushroom is a rare raw material in perfumery, which strengthens O Boticário’s avant-garde positioning and leverages our decades of expertise to present a world-first olfactory experience.”

According to the brand, these fragrances are designed to be layered together, allowing consumers to customize their scent experience, aligning with the rising trend of personalized perfumery, especially popular among Generation Z. 

O Boticário targets this demographic, noting that three out of four Gen Z consumers express a preference for the brand.

This launch comes after O Boticário recently unveiled Clash, a new fougère fragrance for men that embodies resilience and strength.

Crafted by master perfumer Dominique Ropion, Clash redefines freshness with a bold scent that captures the essence of men who thrive under pressure, turning adversity into growth. 

The fragrance stands out for its innovative high-pressure extraction technique, which enhances the purity of its ingredients while maintaining a sustainable approach by reducing energy consumption and recycling carbon dioxide.

Clash opens with an icy, modern freshness combined with a dynamic fruity twist, featuring top notes of yellow starfruit and metallic accents.
