Balenciaga launches new fragrance collection in honour of its history

This launch is both a tribute and a reinvention of Balenciaga’s olfactive heritage, merging its radical design spirit with contemporary fragrance art.

FRANCE – Balenciaga,  a Spanish luxury fashion house, has launched a new fragrance collection that pays homage to its storied history, marking a significant return to luxury perfumery nearly 80 years after its first scent was created.

The collection consists of ten exclusive fragrances inspired by the House’s original perfume, Le Dix, which was first introduced by Cristóbal Balenciaga in 1947.

The new collection draws heavily from the past, highlighted by the recovery of the original Le Dix bottle—a rare find after a 15-year search by the brand’s archivists.

The fragrances are housed in bottles that faithfully replicate this 1947 design, featuring a globular glass cap, hand-tied ribbons, and meticulously reproduced vintage labels.

The scents themselves create a chromatic spectrum of aromas, symbolizing a dialogue between heritage techniques and innovative perfume crafting.

Among these is “Cristóbal,” a scent honouring the founder with notes of oud, patchouli, and oak moss, and “Getaria,” reflecting Balenciaga’s founder’s birthplace with bright citrus and pink peppercorn notes.

Other luxury brands noted for their unique fragrance collections in a similar vein include Creed, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Tom Ford, Byredo, and Bottega Veneta, all known for combining rich heritage and innovative olfactory experiences.

Produced in France, the collection is positioned not only as a revival of Balenciaga’s perfume legacy but also as a modern artistic statement that aligns with the Maison’s identity in fashion.

The launch coincides with the House’s renewed creative direction, underscored by the upcoming debut of designer Pierpaolo Piccioli’s first collection for Spring/Summer 2026.

According to the brand, these fragrances are available at Balenciaga’s historic Paris address on Avenue George V, select stores in North America and Europe, and online.

This new collection asserts Balenciaga’s commitment to both its past and future in the realm of high perfumery, emphasizing sustainability with refillable bottles and recyclable packaging as part of its modern ethos.

This collection marks Balenciaga’s return to haute perfumery, embodying the architectural beauty and dramatic flair of the house in bottled form, honouring the past while embracing the future with craftsmanship and vision.
