Pampers launches world’s smallest diaper for extremely premature infants

Pampers continues to stand “Behind Every Baby,” offering comfort and care that helps these smallest fighters thrive.

USA – Pampers, an American brand of baby and toddler products, has introduced the world’s smallest diaper, the Swaddlers size “Preemie extra extra small” (Pxxs).

This product is designed specifically to support the needs of extremely premature babies born as early as 21-22 weeks of gestation or weighing less than 500 grams.

This innovation was announced on World Prematurity Day, November 17, 2025, reflecting Pampers’ commitment to neonatal care and their long-standing promise to be “Behind Every Baby,” including the tiniest fighters.

The Pxxs diaper is handcrafted from premium, soft materials to protect the delicate, underdeveloped skin of micro preemies, preventing abrasion and irritation.

It is the fourth and smallest diaper in Pampers’ Preemie Collection, designed uniquely for babies weighing under 500 grams.

Pampers collaborated with leading neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) professionals, including neonatologists, wound care specialists, therapists, and nurses from top-level III and IV hospitals, to ensure the diaper’s fit, softness, and functionality meet the rigorous demands of preemie care.

Adam Riegle, VP, Baby Care North America, Pampers, stated, “At Pampers we’re dedicated to helping every baby and with today’s medical advancements that support extreme premature births, babies continue to be born earlier and smaller than ever, creating bigger and smaller needs in preemie care.”

“For today’s micro preemies, there was no diaper that fit their size and met their needs.”

NICU experts highlight the importance of properly fitting diapers to reduce stress and provide stability during this critical phase of development.

According to the brand, the Pxxs size offers unparalleled comfort and care, with a fit and softness not previously available for micro preemies.

This innovation allows NICU nurses to provide optimal care without compromising medical interventions, making changes kinder and less disruptive for these vulnerable newborns.

Pampers also supports families through its 25+ year partnership with March of Dimes, donating to the NICU Family Support® program, which aids over 50,000 families annually.

In addition, Pampers has launched a Q&A-style social content series tailored to the search behaviours of preemie families to guide them through their NICU experience, helping to transform uncertainty into comfort and confidence.

The Pxxs diaper will be available in select hospitals in 2025, but will not be sold in retail stores or online due to its handcrafted and specialized nature.

This launch underscores Pampers’ deep experience and dedication to preemie care, dating back to 1969, when it first began partnering with hospitals and introducing preemie diapers in NICUs in 1973.
